One of those captcha things. This one says ‘select all images with bicycles. Click verify once there are none left’. There are 9 squares - 4 contain photos of bicycle seats, with the remaining 5 showing the beautiful head and face of a grey greyhound with a white stripe going from the top of their head to the tip of their nose.

The other day at a nearby patch I caught some movement that was a Groove-billed Ani. This time I didn’t hear its striking call. Turned out there were 2 deep in the tree cover. #CorpusChristiTx #Birds

This pic of the 2 Anis almost looks posed as this sit on a tree branch with smaller limbs in front. Has an ethereal vibe to it.

Violence is too often sloppy; it spills over. Misogynists kill a lot of men, racists kill white people, ICE in its attacks on immigrants and anyone who looks like them just killed a white US citizen. When you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail; when you're a gun everyone is a target.

「動物に"言語"はあるか？」「動物と"話す"ことは可能か？」という問題は、はるか昔から人々を惹きつけてきた。
この本ではオオカミ、イルカ、ヨウム、ハイラックス、テナガザル、チンパンジーといった、複雑で興味深い音声コミュニケーション手段を駆使する動物たちを中心に、最新研究によってその謎に光を当てる。
本書の肝は、動物の「言語」が私たち人類が想像する言語のあり方と同じではないこと（たとえばイルカのコミュニケーションはいわゆる言語とは異なると主張している）なのだが、そこに動物の面白さと豊かさがある。
新年早々すてきな動物本に巡り会えて幸先いい（表紙もイイね）
