Just a wonderful and thoughtful essay. I’m so tired of the “back to normal” crowd.
Living with Long COVID often feels like living in a horror movie. Along with your disease comes a creepy Hive Mind refusal to acknowledge the dangers of COVID infection. In Vince Gilligan's new Apple TV show Pluribus, the Hive Mind comes to life:

"Pluribus" captures the isolation of COVID-awareness in a COVID denialist world
For years I've described having Long COVID as living in a horror movie. Now that horror movie (well, prestige Apple TV show) is here.

Who made this and why are you choosing nerd violence? ✍️ I mean, it is true, but still.

This holds up as a generalization about academic politics as well.
I'm generalizing, but why do conservatives remember political irritations for so much longer than liberals?
It's been 17 years since Obama said some voters "cling to their guns, to their religion" and I heard a senator denounce that last month.
Obvious theory: Media ecosystem puts it on repeat

Happens every year at my university.
News: Bari Weiss just sent a memo to staffers at CBS News asking them to produce a memo explaining "how you spend your working hours—and ideally, what you've made (or are making) that you're most proud of."
One CBS News staffer puts it like this to me: "We just got Elon Musked."

Just walked past a colleague in the hallway. I said good morning. They chose not to respond. Glad to know that some things in this crazy world don’t change.

I spend enough time staring at Wisconsin: “Let’s have another stunt mass, not follow church teaching.”
Kind of a bummer that a Catholic university can’t reach Costco levels of obedience to Catholic teaching. (stares at California, not naming names, but implying names)

The sudden decision of the LMU Board of Trustees has left many NTT faculty in shock; the union plans a response.

Man, MU students were way ahead of the curve on this sort of fuckery.
A professor at Texas A&M taught… something related to gender that offended a student, who secretly filmed herself objecting. That video is picked up by TX legislators, who demand her firing, and now the dean and dept head have been fired.

A&M Dean removed following student complaints over curriculum
The Department of Justice has also acknowledged the situation and said it would be investigating.

Uff da!--"seriously" not a "it's February and I have to trudge through a foot of snow" way.

Those of us with Long COVID have been grievously harmed by our government’s failure to implement disease control measures. That same government's denial of COVID's dangers has also created massive stigma around our illness, redoubling that harm.

In the United States, the Jesuits have provided striking examples of what solidarity and upholding the rights of workers looks like in an industrial economy.

David Brooks, fascism apologist.
People who choose fascism aren't responsible, the decadent left made them? The Nazis tried that excuse too.
Now as then, it's based on lies. All US media sources were not produced by leftists. That's insane. Fox, Rogan, Daily Wire, etc., not to mention Elon Musk's X.

Opining about the male loneliness crisis while women are losing access to reproductive rights, the maternal mortality rate is rising, and women are being forced out of the workforce is a real choice. It is a choice to ignore the deaths of women to promote the perceived victimhood of men.

When I had a heart attack back in march, I was in a hospital waiting room and this guy was on the tv. I had the horrifying thought that he might be the last tv image I would see.
Today's newsletter is about serious news man Chris Cuomo melting down over an AI-generated video that tricked him www.readtpa.com/p/chris-cuom...
Chris Cuomo Fell for an AI Video Labeled "100% Fake" and It Gets Worse From There
The video was watermarked "parody 100% made with AI." Cuomo shared it anyway, then pivoted to attacking AOC about Hamas. It's even dumber than it sounds.
