If the goal is really “never again,” you have to actually dismantle any system that can be transformed into a lawless, roving, interior-focused police force within a matter of weeks or months, which is all the time it took in the spring of ‘25 to launch the first surge.

I think I'd rather live in China at this point. If I'm gonna be surveilled this much I'd rather have the cheaper food and healthcare, government subsidized housing, the better infrastructure, and politicians that are actually held accountable for corruption

i think nominating Gavin Newsom will lose the White House again for Democrats. The party's left flank will stay home again because he's an empty corporate shell. The age of Democrats punching left to appeal to the center is over and it's now a matter of if the party as a whole realizes that or not.

I’d personally characterize this position as pro-ICE. Rein in can mean a lot of things, to downsize or narrow authority—certainly “training”—but given the very popular demand to dismantle it entirely, this framing suggests that all people really want is for Democrats to “control” ICE.
This is why there must be a full, independent investigation of every incident that ICE has been involved in. DHS and this administration cannot be trusted to carry out investigations on their own.
