I love the east Bay Area. People of different races and religions live and work together to build the American Dream. We in liberal society take this for granted but the national rise of extremism stemming from online content seeks to take this away from us.

Americanism is facing its biggest challenge from extremism. The people of the Bay Area show why its worth fighting for.

Love this! I have exactly the same feeling riding over bridges in this city. Each time I do it I take in the view and think about how lucky I am to live here. It's a feeling that's hard to experience any other way other than on the seat of a bicycle.

Funny how there's apparently no conflict for councilmembers who're landlords voting on tenant protections, or homeowners voting on new housing projects and rezoning actions.

Just for renters who want more homes.
In Santa Monica, the FPPC has disqualified pro-housing Councilmember Jesse Zwick from all future housing votes. They said that because he works for a housing non-profit, he’s “conflicted” and must recuse.

Pretty absurd. The NIMBY deep state strikes again.

The California Fair Political Practices Commission has ruled that Santa Monica Mayor Pro Tem Jesse Zwick must recuse himself from housing production decisions

The post-NFL doubleheader 60 Minutes is the most influential Network news broadcast we have these days because it attracts viewers who aren't tuning in purposefully. The point of Ellison buying CBS is to keep anti-Trump stories off those broadcasts
But it won't air during NFL season capturing normies who wouldn't tune in otherwise which is what matters for Weiss, Ellison and Trump

Addison highlights these types of comments from American conservatives, and I’ve seen this all the time and always think it’s especially deranged. America has the lowest density, most “single-family” housing stock of basically any modern nation and it’s still not enough for these people!

you can't have a governable city if you're just constantly re-litigating major infrastructure decisions made by voters. it's just complete chaos, ensures continued acrimony, and deprives businesses and families of the ability to plan.

it's a fundamentally unserious *and undemocratic* way to exist.

Think about this. Did you hear trans panic headlines in the 2000s? No.

Conservatives weren’t “worried” about trans people until the day they lost on Marriage Equality.

Once they realized most of us are just fine with gay marriage, they needed a new wedge issue and started attacking trans people.
I’m rewatching Mad About You & theres a joke where Ursula the ditzy waitress mistakes a recurring character for a post-op trans woman and immediately talks about how great she looks now, then deadnames her as part of a running joke at Ursula’s expense. In 1995. The great trans scare is manufactured.

The stimmies broke society and will make it impossible to do actual left economic policies for at least a generation
this is data I've been waiting for someone to put together, I think it explains a fair amount about Why Things Are This Way Right Now

the stimmies -> equities/crypto track created something of a new class in American society

The casuals are right. The end of NBA games take too long. Spurs-Thunder was a classic, right up until the final took 9.8 seconds of game time took 12 minutes (without even one review).
Not only did Major League Baseball shorten games with its wide-ranging rule changes, but it did so by eliminating many of the sport’s boring moments.

The NBA should do the same and keep the main thing the main thing, writes @ekoreen.bsky.social.

This is easier to do if it's less than a decade since the last trifecta and you have the political room to be strategic rather than catering to long term spending asks of the party
🇺🇸 trifectas get shot at doing something

Obama chose policy (ACA). It didn’t fix the authoritarian problem

Biden chose policy (ARP/IRA). It didn’t fix the authoritarian problem

The platform must be institutional reform next time. Right from the start, as @dhnexon.bsky.social said
If we want to actually be a representative democracy, then the platform needs to be institutional reform. All the Popularism and all the policies follow from that, not the other way around.

Newsom must have only signed those housing laws because they were supposed to not work too well. If there's threat of them working then he has to ban them from rich neighborhoods
"We will not allow outside groups — even longstanding allies — to attack the Palisades," @gavinnewsom.bsky.social spokesperson on a now-filed YIMBY Law lawsuit against his July executive order banning duplexes in L.A. wildfire rebuilding www.politico.com/news/2025/12...
Newsom wouldn’t budge on his duplex ban for the Los Angeles wildfire rebuild. So, a YIMBY group is suing him.

“Cut-price luxury and exorbitant necessity” is a great phrase by @stephenkb.bsky.social. The internet has made culture (and other superstar markets) more scalable and unequal, pushing up the price of necessities in places where superstars congregate.

Obviously this is not a defense of Greene, but it's clear that the secret sauce of Trump 2 is death threats and it's good when people who are receiving them start talking about it. That's the only way we get through this time.
Marjorie Taylor Greene: "I sent those deaths threats directly to him in a text message & informed him of what his name calling & words were doing - it was a direct assassination threat on my son. And he was extremely - I won't repeat what he said - but it was extremely unkind. No sympathy. No care"
