San Jose is the largest city in Northern California and the highest-income area in the nation without a major-league team, and the Giants’ territorial rights extended only to the A’s, so it could be an option.

White Americans want an endlessly appreciating asset and the ability to police who their neighbors are and what they do. Housing segregation, suburban sprawl, and planned communities are how they won those things, and how they protect them. Automobile dependence is mainly a necessary side effect. Housing preferences have less to do with how people want to get around than they do with the level of control white Americans want to have over who can live near them, largely for the sake of property values.

I regret to inform you that Donald Trump did not do the right kind of conservatism that benefits me, instead preferring to selectively prosecute crime on a partisan basis
Washington, DC, where I live, is not a state and doesn't have normal state criminal courts. We have a local court system and local criminal laws, but constitutionally speaking, these are federal courts. As a result, local felonies are prosecuted by a United States Attorney. I had kind of hoped that Trump would give us a tough-on- crime prosecutor who would help keep illegally carried handguns off the street. Instead, we have Ed Martin, a lifelong conservative activist with no prosecutorial experience, who participated in Stop The Steal rallies and raised funds for the 1/6 rioters and is now abusing his power by threatening to prosecute opposition party members of Congress. This has attracted less attention than the more spectacular abuses of power in the Eric Adams case, but it's bad. The "vibes" are in favor of free speech, but the actual practice is in the opposite direction. Fell for it again award meme

Since we're doing cooking discourse today, I recently learned that Safari has a "Hide Distracting Items" feature which you can use on recipe blogs to remove all the pop over ads and videos that make those sites illegible

If you just go fast enough, and you keep going, an enemy force collapses. It appears to be as simple as that. It turns out then when you do stuff quickly while shooting guns, people are really bad at coping with that. Just really don't know how to handle it.

But give them credit: They don’t discriminate between the average Joe and a candidate for mayor. Here at Power Play, we used our crack investigative journalism skills to obtain ticket citations for mayoral candidates Peskin, Farrell, and Lurie since 2020. (Breed gets a pass since she is ferried around in a city car and doesn’t own a vehicle anymore.) Former mayor and supervisor Farrell has run as the law and order candidate — and wants to fire the city’s transit boss, Jeffrey Tumlin. But the Farrells’ four cars, including two BMWs, an Acura, and a Volvo, have racked up the highest number of tickets: 58. He had $108 outstanding for a single citation until Friday, when Power Play inquired about the matter. The family has two teenage drivers, a Farrell campaign spokesperson noted. (Mystery solved on the high number.) Next is nonprofit founder Lurie. He’s collected 23 tickets between the two vehicles registered at his home — a Rivian and a Tesla — and has paid off all of them. Lurie’s campaign declined to comment. Finally, Peskin. He owed the SFMTA $108 for an Oct. 25 ticket on his Toyota Prius that has been paid off. The longtime legislator is the most compliant, having racked up a modest 12 tickets since 2020. Peskin’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment

This setting isn’t perfect, if a follow replies to their own reply it shows up, but at the least this site should make it very difficult to turn this off.
