In the past week I've seen Ocarina used as an example of a game without annoying NPCs and Majora used as an example of a game without a tutorial and I'm starting to wonder if the "old games were better" types have actually even played the old games they're talking about
I'm older than you so I can confirm that they came with a little book that had the tutorial in it and you read it on the way home

My father-in-law is a game developer. It is difficult to get his attention in a magnificent game because he is lost in wonder. We were playing Wario World together years ago and I asked him what it would cost to make it today. I will never forget his answer… 'We can’t, we don’t know how to do it.'

In Donkey Kong 64, the Giant Spider miniboss can only be fought once. Modifying the game to fight it a second time makes it unceremoniously explode. While this appears to be a glitch, examining the code reveals it was actually deliberately added for the developers' own amusement.

treating small burns is such a joke of a process dude. i accidentally touch something thats just a little bit too hot for a fraction of a second and suddenly my finger is just a spoiled child for the next several hours

last night i had a dream where i was playing a race against cpus in kirby air riders and won, but there was a mechanic where one of the cpus could be randomly revealed to have died in the middle of the race and it would automatically give them first place
