Go and see Hamnet! It’s not an easy ride - I’ve never cried so much at a film. But it’s beautifully made and the performances are deeply moving. Unexpectedly, it has the best portrayal of the ghost of Hamlet’s father I’ve ever seen: not as an angry revengeful spirit but as a symbol of grief.

No one ever drew Christmas, Winter or Sussex better than Raymond Briggs. His work is so bittersweet, celebrating the ordinary person, family life and suburbia, yet oh so melancholy. He taught my dad at Brighton Art College and my father never stopped admiring his work.
