After years of struggling to find enough workers for some of the nation’s toughest lockups, the Federal Bureau of Prisons is facing a new challenge: Corrections officers are jumping ship for more lucrative jobs at ICE.

Many of the problems the agency is facing now are not new, but staff and prisoners fear an exodus of officers could make life behind bars even worse.

Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:

Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business.

Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.

This is highly misleading. CMS exercised significant discretion in the design of the Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) and made a number of substantive choices which were not compelled by Congress. Here are just a few examples. 1/6
Kennedy is getting grilled by governors on the Rural Health Fund and concerns about the fairness of how the $50 billion will be distributed. He responded by distancing himself from it, saying that the House and Senate decided how the program works and he won't be able to change it.

The low cost, immediacy, and perceived privacy of AI chatbots likely contribute to these rates, particularly among youth who are unlikely to receive traditional counseling.

I'm seeing people wonder why ICE is going after Charlotte.

ICE has been at war with Charlotte's sheriff ever since he won in 2018.

We'd covered this at Bolts back in the day; this quote is from that sheriff:
“When the 8 African American sheriffs took over the largest counties in North Carolina, it became a threat to the good ol’ boy system,” says the sheriff of Charlotte. These new sheriffs broke ties with ICE.

But GOP lawmakers cracked down this week, overbidding the governor’s veto to adopt this law:
North Carolina GOP Is Cracking Down on the Black Sheriffs Who Stood Up to ICE
Boosted by new supermajorities, Republicans are closing in on legislation to mandate more collaboration with ICE and preempt local policies hard-won by immigrants’ rights advocates.
