Liberalism was never, in fact, supposed to have any notion of meaning “cowardice or lack of conviction”, and its high time we show everyone exactly how much it doesn’t
but like, he'll tail paramilitaries in his Honda fit to protect a Somali community I doubt he's had many dealings with. you cannot doubt his courage, he defies any notion of liberalism meaning cowardice or lack of convictions

The thing is. If you are in fact going to take the “do crimes” path, you have to be actually strategic and tactical about it in order to be effective. Or else you just throw your life away against the wall of the state. You can’t just firebomb a Walmart and expect it to lead to Utopia
Oh my God. Did I figure it out?

Is the dividing line on BlueSky as simple as "Do Crimes" vs. "That Won't Be Good"?

Sometimes, on a bad night, I scream shit like "Well why don't they just DO CRIMES!" but that's not a thing I actually demand people do. That's bonkers. It won't work.

They will break against us. We will win
alright last thing before i try to sign off for the day- but i think part of the reason they are getting more and more aggressive, the reason they keep sending in more troops is that the community defense is working.

Again: these are not the actions and tone of a regime that is secure in its power
it’s pretty telling that in the last three months, they’ve gone from WE WILL HUNT AND FIND YOU to we are just uwu smol bean ICE agents who are being attacked
Tom Homan on how ICE agents are people just like you and me and we shouldn't be mean to them: "They're mothers and fathers too. They have children too. They have parents too."

statecraft, the acquisition, consolidation and effective use of state power, is a real skill and the current fuckers do not know how to do it
The more I look at the prep and legal reasoning behind invading LA, the more it looks like that the administration wants to seize supreme authoritarian power over the corpse of the republic through force of arms but also doesn’t want to do any actual work to do so. Rather surreal.

It’s all “boring pleasant bureaucrats vs sexy murder poets”, isn’t it
Nobody wants to serve. Nobody expects better. Everyone just aspires to being the boss of their own gang.

In times of civic decay, we need civic spirit and faith in higher ideals more than ever, not less. The answer will not come from punk community action.

It’s not too late to improve the situation until we’re all dead.

This is another of my own key takeaways from reading a lot of history.

"if you wish to organize a revolution, start by organizing a dinner party"
like, look, if you are a person that is worried about what might be coming, the least effective thing you can do is buy a gun and the most effective thing you can do is buy folding chairs and tables and make room for them in your home.
other people can fuck with guns, i don’t give a shit about guns, i can cook for, feed and seat at least 20 people in my 1BR apartment if i plan it right, and thats what i focus on

If we villainize power, then we let it concentrate in the hands of those who don't mind being villains

Anti-humanity shit in the replies to this ("can it hurry up and hit us sooner??" / "we deserve it" / etc) is why we don't win

Fuck that asteroid, I love humans, all my homies are human. A successful political movement must be pro-humanity. That's what we fight for.
An asteroid that measures up to 300 feet across could smack into Earth in 2032, and while NASA says the chances of a collision are “extremely low,” the probability has been increasing since the space rock was discovered weeks ago.
NASA says that, yes, an asteroid buzzing by in 2023 could hit Earth
But — importantly — the chances are still "extremely low," though they have ticked up since the object was first detected.

this is doomerism

the military reflects the demographics of the us, the officer corps are college educated and hate trump, and there's a strong civic religious belief in the constitution

and all this would be happening amid wide scale protests against him and his deeply unpopular policies
3. If they don't get it, then they will push until they provoke widespread protests and/or armed rebellion. They will then use this as an excuse for atrocities, domestic military use and for the centralization of authority.

We ought to strive for virtue all the more, now, that we have seen what its absence writ large looks like

If Trump ignores the Constitution, then I have just as legitimate a claim to the Oval Office as he does

RETVRN to civic virtue, decency and universal human dignity
We’re seeing a total dismissal and mockery of all civic, traditional values, from stuff like “sharing is good” to “service and self-sacrifice to help others above one’s self is morally good.”

Even Dubya paid lip service to that stuff sometimes.
