I remember that many people warned about the dangers of putting the most ethically deranged person on earth in the most powerful governing position in the world and to do so without any meaningful legal constraints or realistic accountability mechanisms -- and they were dismissed as "hysterical."

the failure of Dem opposition still comes from the party being without shared beliefs such that the only message they can agree on is affordability.

the party as a whole won’t condemn cops. they won’t call for a wealth tax. they won’t call for expansive labor rights. they’re lost but hate the left.

I hate to be a broken record on this but politicians ~have agency~ in shaping the national discourse. Abolish ICE is at 50% based on what people are seeing and not on what politicians are saying. We should want leaders who push public opinion and are not so scared they render themselves meaningless.
People are waving around 50/50 polling on abolish ICE and in the same poll Trump’s is like 30 points under water on affordability. It’s not at all crazy for professional politicians to think there’s a bigger advantage in talking about the latter!

1. Fuck off with the groveling "don't make him angry" abuser language.

2. Stop admonishing protesters. Direct it at ICE and CBP, the organizations driving the violence.

3. Violence does not only help Trump. Violence may well be the only way out of this. But if you grew a spine, it might deter him.
Violence only helps Trump & may provide him an excuse to further trample our rights by invoking the Insurrection Act.

There is no redeeming this, no amount of training that can fix the rot at the heart of this institution. Any Democratic official that votes to give this agency a penny is betraying our country.

One of the 50 people that ICE kidnapped today is a mother from the Democratic Republic of the Congo who has a pending asylum application and no criminal record

It’s an ethnic cleansing campaign. Pure and simple.

ICE told Fox News that it had arrested 50 people in Maine on Tuesday, out of 1,400 targets in the state. Patricia Hyde, ICE deputy assistant director, said the agency was arresting people who had committed crimes of sexual assault, drug trafficking, driving under the influence and assault, who came from Senegal, Honduras, Somalia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Guatemala.“You name it; they’re on the target list,” Hyde said.Videos and reports of ICE arrests in Portland and the surrounding area began circulating on social media on Tuesday. Call your reps. Let them know that if they vote for ICE funding, you will not vote for them ever again.

Representatives need to feel the heat. NO on ICE funding. No excuses.
So the House is going to vote TOMORROW on the DHS funding bill that includes funding for ICE.

There's a real chance we can get Dems to vote NO on any bill with ICE funding to sink it.

Once it goes to the Senate we likely lose this chance.

24 hours. Go.

Hakeem Jeffries is a weak coward who cannot lead on important issues. He needs to be stripped of his House leadership, and primaried out at the first opportunity.
NEWS: While Hakeem Jeffries has announced he's opposing the DHS/ICE funding bill tomorrow, his team is not whipping the vote. Several frontliners are expected to vote yes. There's a difference in leadership between personal vote decisions & unifying the caucus.

Jeffries Won’t Whip Vote Against ICE Funding - The American Prospect
While the House Democratic leader announced personal opposition to a funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security, he won’t pressure his colleagues to do the same.

Trump's speech was a fiasco. It revealed yet again, his ignorance, arrogance, and malevolence in equal parts. But it was more than that, more than just offensive to our allies. It marks the end of a century of building trans-Atlantic ties that have been a centerpiece of global peace and prosperity.
