We all understand on some level that there are Certain People you shouldn't talk to, by community consensus. The prospect of slipping into that group is one of the worst things a human brain can imagine. That itself drives a lot of mob abuse - people reinforce their in-group status by taking part.

I think it affects us because our brains intuitively understand and fear the prospect of being made into a pariah. "I can't be seen interacting normally with you" is very real, even online. The threat isn't that someone will come kill you (though to be clear, they might!) but ostracization.
When I was around 12, I posted my first YouTube video and a bunch of Canadian teenagers trolled me for years. Told me my stuff was awful, I should kill myself, etc.
I am 27 and realized this year how that stuff still affects my self-esteem. Anyone telling Will to “get over it” is being an asshole.

scored the Dino Megazord (2010 version, same mold used for legacy) for cheap than what he goes for online all due to the fact that the guy who got it found it stashed in a bunch of other stuff.
Only thing missing are stickers but I got a new set coming in for him.

Just heard Drew Struzan passed away 😞 His incredible work has given me and countless others so much awe, joy and inspiration!
I had posters of his work as a teen, I began using color pencils because I thought he used them too. Always inspired by him. Just utterly heart broken.
RIP Drew Struzan.
