I was on a wonderfully newless vacay last week and just heard of the $2000 dollar thing yesterday. Some rando at an airport was all excited about the possibility. I said it sounded like a bribe for votes, because that's what he's doing. How about making his millionaire/billionaire friend pay taxes.

This is clearly bad; however, if you want a small bit of light, Chicago is probably the most transparent city in the US on this. Every city has police lawsuits. The difference is that they usually hide the cost of them from taxpayers.
