Decided to watch the original Planet of the Apes movies for the 1st time in an age, see if I still love them. Starting with the '68 classic. Cynical Charlton Heston monologuing; avant-garde Goldsmith; Roddy McDowall & Kim Hunter not letting the prosthetics hinder them 1 bit; mood for days.

Now, more than ever, we need a CEC that will fight for a party led by its members — not MPs or bureaucrats.
More than a month has passed since Your Party’s founding conference, where we decided to adopt a collective leadership model — a win for member democracy and a win for you, the members. With more than 55,000 members, we are now the biggest socialist party in the UK since the 1940s. We have finally received timelines and guidance for the upcoming CEC election, but it is deeply disappointing to see a unilateral move that ignores the decisions made by conference just last November. Instead, an arbitrary, time-limited vote is being imposed — a decision made not by members, but by MPs and unelected bureaucrats. Our conference is the supreme, sovereign, democratic body of the party and it must be treated as such. This decision particularly undermines the role of our nations within the party, sidelining the voices of Scotland and Wales. This is simply not good enough. Now, more than ever, we need a CEC that will fight for a party led by its members — not MPs or bureaucrats. I look forward to working with others right across the movement and our nations to deliver the next stage of maximum member democracy and build a truly democratic socialist party. Join the movement. The BBC is really showing its arse with its editorial guidelines recommending the use of a pseudoscientific dogwhistle in reporting that mentions trans people.

It's important that they're not allowed to continue using fake-scientific insults in peace.

Managed to finish Hero C23 last night.

Tonight's 1st task is the read-through. I know 1 change I want to make at the end, & need to check the start, which I worry is a little perfunctory.

Then onto C24, which I've been looking forward to. Lots of juicy backstory stuff to chew on.

Tumblr user nocryptographer: I talked with someone who works in book publishing, and they mentioned they get a lot of AI slop these days. I asked how they know what's human-written, and they said that there's one thing that will reveal AI slop without error, and that's the author not knowing their own creation. A real author can talk about their story for hours. They love to elaborate every character, every twist, every detail. Because those existed in their head long before they ever made it to the paper. They were loved before they were written. AI slop wasn't. It was just vomited into existence. Someone who generates their story with AI will never bond with their story the way real writers do. That's why they may not know what to say when they're asked why did the character do this, or even remember the scene in the first place. It's something they read, not something they wrote. And to a writer, those are not the same. There's a unique bond between the creator and the creation. If your writing doesn't come of you, you'll always lack that. I keep hearing soon we won't be able to tell. And perhaps, in a superficial sense, that's true. But there is a difference. It's not em dashes or repeated words. It's whether the story was made by someone who loves it and cares about it. If the writer's eyes light up when asked why did the character do that? and they start their very own Ted Talk about that specific scene... then it's real.

Nightwish concerts may not be an obvious choice for Christmas Eve viewing, but I'm actually managing to write pretty well despite my cold, so it's working for me.

There's just something so energising about them. They fire me up every time.
