I'm back. I don't know how long I'll stay, but I want to be able to use this while on vacation later this week.
So hi again. What's new?

I’ve taken social media and news off my phone, and I’m surprised how good it feels. Having it on my iPad means I control the onslaught.

A short thread with some tips about Trump fatigue and the next few years:

1. Be prepared to pace yourself. Had too much for one day? Shut it down. Dig into work and hobbies. Find enjoyment.
I just… I’m too fucking OLD for another four years of Trump. You know?

I’m already so fucking tired.
BREAKING: Donald Trump to sign 200+ executive orders tomorrow.

Per FOX and Eric Daugherty, they include:
- Declare emergency at the border + issue proclamation closing the border
- Designate cartels as foreign terrorist organizations
- Remain in Mexico, Catch and Release will be reinstated

Is Trump suggesting state owned media? I can’t stress how dangerous this is. I’m also concerned no one will care because they’ll get to keep their TikTok

This TikTok stunt sounds like someone setting your house on fire and the coming with a bucket of water to help fight the fire.

Trump pulled this stunt to „look good“ for „saving TikTok“.

One of my favorite things we do at @runforsomething.bsky.social is work with library board candidates. As one library board member explained to me, libraries are where govt touches *everyone* from kids for story time to teens studying to new citizens learning English to seniors in knitting groups.
I have been pleading for folks to run for their local public library boards, because LIBRARIANS NEED THE SUPPORT OF THEIR BOARDS to stand up to censorship and defunding and “parental rights” fascism. Good on you!! 📚
Dogs, bikes, and community involvement. I'll be running for a library board position, in addition to already being a town meeting member. Even though I have little control over what will happen federally, it will feel empowering to at least have a voice in how my town is run. Plus, libraries rock!

Ok #booksky, let’s talk.

I have inadvertently curated a feed that is so politics-heavy that I don't enjoy coming here. He's not even inaugurated yet, and I'm finding myself shrugging and turning away. I'm rapidly going from being unable to look away to so tired that I can't care.

Here's something I found I enjoy. Probably the best thing I've found to get physically active (I'm very out of shape and have never liked exercise or sports): children's dance/exercise videos. Absolutely silly, just wiggle and giggle. Currently my favs are by Danny Go. #embarrassingsecret

ABC, NBC & CBS dedicated about 16 minutes of airtime last night to the California wildfires without once mentioning climate change.

Since the news failed do it's job, here's a short summary of the role of climate change and wildfire risk:

Between fires in California, massive snows in the Midwest, people in the Carolinas still suffering from the hurricane, the mess in the middle east, and the upcoming inauguration, I'm fighting turtle mode. If I wait till sunset to curl up under a blanket & comfort watch, the day is a win.

I have written almost nothing since the election, not prose, poetry, or fiction. Is there a causal relationship, a throttling of creativity bc of the election? I also note that all the media I've consumed since then has been comfort reading & watching. Considering this now. #morningrealization

I don't like "Your first draft will be shitty" as advice, because it's a really negative framing.

I prefer, "You have the freedom to be messy creating your first draft."

Anyone crafter knows what their room looks like mid-creation. Writers should be as free to be as exhuberent and messy.

Fascinating thread!
Heard of the Rose Parade? I went on a lovely bike ride last Sunday to see two of the six volunteer-built floats, Sierra Madre and South Pasadena. (A thread.)

You're telling me

that Margo Martindale

and Wayne Knight

were once partners

on a team of character actors who moonlit as private investigators

to supplement film/tv income by busting bad guys with their acting skills

and this has never been adapted into the longest-running show on NBC?

Christmas dinner: eggplant parmesan. Last year, we misjudged how quickly eggplant goes bad, so my daughter over-bought, hoping that there would be enough still good for our family gathering.
This is the leftover.

I'm considering the times that "I statements" don't work and realizing why I don't tend to use them. I feel a blog-type post coming on.

Related, I'm deciding if it's time for me to have a substack and commit to posting regularly and working to grow my readership.
