Hello everyone.
Most of the people I follow here know me from Twitter, where I started my social media journey. Then Elmo came and basically turned the platform into a tool of fascism and woe and behold, America elected a known rapist, a convicted felon and a fascist.
So here I am. I miss the bird.

We all feared for them. We knew from the sexual atrocities of October 7 what Hamas was capable of.

I wish these survivors daily blessings of strength and healing.

Released hostage Arbel Yehud was sexually abused “almost every single day” by her Palestinian Islamic Jihad captors during her 482 days in captivity.

The tormented faces of Romi and Arbel when they were led through seething crowds of terrorists screaming to get to them, have been seared into my memory ever since. Their macabre release “ceremonies” were haunting.
Now we hear what they experienced, and I understand exactly what I recognized then.

When you use AIPAC as a slur — as you are doing — you’re enflaming antisemitism.

You don’t even bother to mention larger corporate PACs with MUCH larger influence.

You’re organizing against Israel, and that’s not America’s democracy problem.

You’re corrupting your movement with Jew hatred.

All three of these candidates have been endorsed by their local Indivisible groups and members, and all are running in Democratic primaries where voters face a clear choice about the future direction of the Party. 🧵

As Goebbels said, ‘Accuse the other of that which you are guilty.’

Those accusing genocide are the ones promoting genocide.

Through her writing and teaching, Livia emphasized that the Holocaust is not just history or numbers. It is made up of individual lives and choices. Survivors were people, not symbols, forced to adapt to impossible conditions and keep going day by day.

After the war, Livia and her mother spent several years in displaced persons camps in Europe. In 1951, they immigrated to the United States on a refugee boat to join her brother in NY. She trained as a historian and educator, dedicating her life to sharing her story and history of the Holocaust.

After months in Auschwitz, Livia was transferred through several other camps. She and her mother and brother were liberated in 1945. The experience left them displaced and facing the challenge of rebuilding life after losing loved ones and community.

Livia endured months of forced labor under constant hunger and the ever-present threat of death. She learned to pay attention to guards, routines, and other prisoners. Survival depended on noticing small changes and reacting quickly.

Soon after arrival, her brother and aunt were separated from Livia and her mother. Her aunt perished, but her brother survived. Still a teenager, she was forced into labor. The Nazis left no room for grief. Awareness and instinct became necessary for survival.

Livia and her family were deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau. The camp was designed to dehumanize. Hunger was constant, labor was exhausting, and violence unpredictable. Each day came with the same question: who would still be alive tomorrow?

Livia Bitton-Jackson was 13 when antisemitic laws in Slovakia stripped Jewish families of their rights. Everyday life changed fast for a teenager. School, friends, and safety disappeared as deportations became unavoidable and survival replaced everything else.
