crazy thought, maybe school shouldn't be about maximizing profit
"You're gonna have NFL-type payrolls. Colleges don't make that much money, even the most successful, so they're not gonna be able to do this. Bad things are gonna happen" -- Trump on Pat McAfee's ESPN show makes a case against paying college athletes

i love feeling like an entrepreneur when i'm trying to not go bankrupt for having the audacity to get sick
Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

one thing to note is that it is very good that dems/centrists see that an affordability agenda from a leftist/collectivist perspective is very much winnable but if they campaign on it and do not follow through on making it a reality, that is going to drive people to the far right fast as hell

some guy is making a documentary about TCAP and it seems like it's mildly critical from this interview but this line was hilarious.
like, unless you're driving people to suicide and putting people on blast without due process, you're not doing the same thing

I don’t know how many times I’ve watched this video.
I don’t know how we’ve gotten to the point where men in full balaclavas can abduct daycare teachers while they’re watching children.
But I do know that this isn’t sustainable. Abolish ICE. There is no way to reform this.

Per Customs & Border Protection, Department of Justice, and DEA data, 80-90% of foreign fentanyl that has been brought into the US each year since 2019 has been brought by American citizens coming through ports of entry.
Only 0.02% of people arrested for entering illegally even possess any fentanyl

Both guys with extremely in-character views on what growing up in Irvine was like:

i don't know how people can read the things matt yglesias writes and think that he's anything other than a conservative. this is indistinguishable from fox news.
I don't think it helps the debate about what Democrats should do to pick an obscure thing that some Democrat somewhere may have said -- like on teaching eighth grade algebra -- and then attribute it to Democrats generally.

every day that goes by seems to justify my criticism of the abundance movement
I genuinely cannot believe that Ezra Klein said we should run pro-life candidates in Kansas, Ohio, and Missouri; three states that recently held abortion referendums where the pro-choice side won!

okay but that's a great april fools video idea
YouTube recently added an artificial intelligence thing on the creator dashboard, and at one point it "suggested" I make a video about "The Whale," which it indicated was a literal gay marine mammal that once lived in Hollywood. I think it mixed up James Whale and the movie The Whale??????
Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.
