When right-wingers say "illegal immigrant" what they really mean is "undeserving immigrant." It's not about immigration status; it's about immigrants being successful and making more money than the native-born.

Amazon is helping fund a $300 million build of a ballroom for the White House.

Independent bookstores are donating to food banks and organizations that help with food insecurity.

They are not the same.

Pure speculation, but I think the rush to get the Epstrin Ballroom done at the White House is because Trump is worried he will die before it's completed.

I don't understand this position. People have a right to know how the philospher kings who rule over them think about things. 5 Supreme Court Justices can re-write entire sections of the Constitution, and besides the scarecrow of impeachment, nothing can be done to stop them.
I do not want to see a Supreme Court justice’s face on cable news, period
Amy Coney Barrett defends heavy use of the shadow docket: "If we wrote a long opinion, it might give the impression that we have finally resolved the issue, and in none of these cases have we finally resolved the issue."

One question I would like to have answered is why Americans have such a tough time imposing accountability on their fellow Americans? When did the culture of immunity begin?

A bunch of Americans rose up, tried to form their own country and caused the death of hundreds of thousands in defense of slavery. They got a slap on the wrist and life went on. Given that history, why would anyone think there will be any punishments for actions under the current president?
This is a massive, history making abuse of your power. It will define your legacy and one day you will come to regret punishing free speech and trying to destroy democracy.

Not only did America fail to defeat the Taliban, they returned home with their own Christian version of it.

I don't agree with Charlie Kirk's political ideas at all, but I am sad that he was murdered and I wish he was still alive. I feel that way about anyone whose life was needlessly shortened. After tragedy, any tragedy, we should recommit to increasing transcendental love.

Is something constitutional, and therefore, the Supreme Court orders it? Or is something constitutional because the Supreme Court ordered it?

Remember when the Trump 1.0 administration separated families and put kids in cages and no one investigated that after Democrats got control of the Presidency and Congress? Get ready for exactly the same thing should Democrats control either of those 2 institutions again.

The 1985 AI slop nostalgia video making the rounds here wants to claim 1985 was an amazing time, but how can any time be amazing when call waiting still wasn't thing? There was nothing worse than calling someone and getting that busy signal and no way to get around it.

No reckoning for anyone in any role of authority?

That's the American way since 1865.
I hate to compare it to Jan 6., but there was no reckoning for anyone in any role of authority totally losing their minds, calling for a state of emergency, calling for violence. Military claiming to be chased by giant swarms of drones, later proven to be…planes. There should have been consequences.

Roberts invented presidential criminal immunity out of broadcloth, and this moron has an issue with Justice Jackson's opinions. It must suck to he so spectacularly wrong and not realize it.
Indeed, KBJ is on the bench and doing an even worse job.

One thing to realize is that the conservative majority on the US Supreme Court has gone post-Constitutional. It will continue to pay lip service to the Constitution, but the words contained in it will be no guide to their future rulings, nor will the plain language of the Constitution be followed.

Rural people vote for Trump in droves. If they want to shoot themselves in the foot, that's their choice. Part of democracy is allowing people to make foolish choices that hurt themselves.
I’m old enough to remember when John Barrasso consistently opposed defunding the Corporation for Public Broadcasting because CPB’s most important role is financially sustaining radio and TV broadcast infrastructure in places like WYOMING where private enterprise will not connect people to the world.

A very interesting and thought-provoking thread.
Journalists often ask for my thoughts on the contemporary US pronatalist movement. My assessment is based on my expertise and training as a social demographer, and my own research on childbearing behaviors at the individual and aggregate levels.

Strap in, b/c I've got a lot to say. 1/

This is the line from the horrific SCOTUS decision today that will stick with me. “Sure, the president should follow the law - but the courts can’t force him to do it.” Rendering the Constitution a dead letter if the president decides he’d rather not deal with it.
