The Calgary #Flames may not have signed their upper management to new contracts as they announced last month. New reports are that they did this midway through the season. Here's what we know:
Report: The Calgary Flames may not have signed Craig Conroy and other upper management to new contracts this summer
The Calgary Flames recently announced a Craig Conroy extension, as well as deals for Dave Nonis, Brad Pascall, and the embattled Don Maloney, noting that those contracts were signed over the summer. While the timing of the announcement did seem fishy, having been released to fans after the embarrassing Don Maloney media tour, new information is circulating that those contracts may have been signed far more recently.

It's time for another #Flames seven game check in. Read below to see what happened with the team during their latest stretch.
Flames 7 game check in: ups and downs
Welcome back to our series as we check in on the Calgary Flames every seven games. This will run throughout the entire 2025-26 season, as we reflect on the team’s highs and lows during that time. Over the last seven games, the Flames have been playing better hockey lately. They're coming off a dominant 4-1 win against the Minnesota Wild, but there are still obvious flaws with the team.

Young defensive defenceman Yan Kuznetsov has been a bright spot in a dark season for the #Flames.

He's averaged over 22 minutes on ice the last five games and picked up two points, including his first NHL goal.

Read more about him, here!
Yan Kuznetsov has been a great surprise for the Calgary Flames
The Calgary Flames are not very good this season. They've sat at the bottom of the standings pretty much since the start of the year. That's not to say 2025–26 has been completely negative for them so far. A few positives have trickled their way into this dreadful year. One of these positives is defenceman Yan Kuznetsov. On November 4, with an open roster spot, the Flames decided to reward the defensive defenceman with a call-up to the NHL.

With points in five of their last six games, can the Calgary #Flames do the impossible and close in on a playoff spot? Or is it already too late?
Playoffs or draft lottery: Can the Calgary Flames continue to inch closer to a playoff spot?
The Calgary Flames' hot stretch continued last week, bringing their record to 4-1-1 in their last six. That's points in five of six games, something that seemed impossible back in October. Just like that, the Flames now sit just five points out of a playoff spot, albeit with two extra games played. With their recent shift in results, are the playoffs looking like an actual possibility again?

With Rasmus Andersson likely on his way out, the #Flames cannot afford to make the same mistake with him as they did with Noah Hanifin two seasons ago

Read more below
The Flames can’t repeat the “Noah Hanifin mistake” with Rasmus Andersson
The Calgary Flames have played better of late, but remain 31st in the NHL. The goal for this season is clear: to do everything they can for a top pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. As the team remains near last place with the season continuing, more noise will be heard regarding the future of the team's veteran players. One of those players is Rasmus Andersson, who we've already heard tons of noise about ever since last season.

Sitting last in the NHL in goal production, the #Flames offence has been historically terrible.

So how do the forwards look in terms of their 82 game point pace? Let's take a look at the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Measuring the Calgary Flames forward group by 82-game point pace
Despite the Calgary Flames' winning four of their last five games, their offence remains the worst in the NHL. Through 26 games, the team is averaging just 2.33 goals per game, the lowest rate in the NHL. Their goal production is currently tracking as the second-worst in franchise history, signalling a truly horrific offence. As such, it isn't surprising that the team's roster is currently on pace for some unattractive 82-game point totals.

The #Flames were hot to close out November, but they are still in the NHL's basement in the standings.

Does this recent hot streak change Calgary's outlook this season? Check out how fans are feeling in this week's poll!
Flames Sunday Census: Has Calgary’s recent hot streak changed how you view the team?
After a disastrous start to the season, the Calgary Flames seem to have found their groove and have now won four of their last five games. Two of the wins were against the Florida Panthers and Dallas Stars, who are both Stanley Cup contenders. It has been an impressive stretch overall for the team, and it is something that fans did not see all season until now.

#Flames teenager Matvei Gridin is leading the rookie scoring race in the AHL and making a case to be the team's early MVP!
Matvei Gridin is absolutely torching the AHL
The Calgary Flames made two first round picks in 2024, the first being potential phenom Zayne Parekh, and the second being Russian winger Matvei Gridin. While the Gridin pick was a bit off the board at the time, he shocked not just the Flames but the entire NHL by making the team out of camp. He was sent back to the AHL after four games.

Over a quarter into the 2025-26 season, the Calgary #Flames have a goaltender sitting at the top of the NHL in most metrics.

It's not who anyone would've guessed back in October though.
Devin Cooley has been one of the NHL’s best goalies this season
Over a quarter way into the 2025-26 season, the Calgary Flames have a goalie sitting at the top of the league. It's not who anyone would've guessed though. Devin Cooley, not Dustin Wolf has been posting elite numbers. While Wolf struggles with a sophomore slump, backup Cooley has been dominating between the pipes. After slowly earning more starts as the season has gone on, Cooley officially looks like one of the NHL's very best goalies this season.
