A whale caught in crab nets is fighting for her life on the Oregon Coast near Yachats, with so many people rushing there before official help arrives at dawn. The whale is vocalizing distress, asking for help. It's devastating. We have to find a way to stop entanglements. Unconscionable.

I love this. I remember being 🤯 by a documentary in which scientists knapped a Neanderthal tool. They estimated that the process must have taken months, not because they were unintelligent but because it had multiple functions.
Many people are curious about knapping. Here's a video I show my students.

There are heaps of videos out there, but they are very North American (there's the rest of the world to consider!) or focused on the 'fancy' stuff. 🧪 🏺

Short fiction writers, please read this and equip yourselves to make informed choices about the contracts you sign. 💔💪

Scott is the second person I know to have had to withdraw a story from one of this group of magazines due to their new contract issues. Depressing but important for writers to know about Asimov’s, Analog, and the Magazine of F&SF (all of which have editors who are NOT to blame for the new model).
