Huntington's is an inherited disease that's like Alzheimers + Parkinson's all in one. NOW: "once the gene therapy has been delivered into the brain... [it] injects a piece of DNA to reprogram the neuron to become a factory for its own cure."

LIFE SAVING!

You should leave Substack in 2026, because they platform fascists regularly, but even before that I am *begging* you to stop referring to your writing as "my Substack" because why give them that agency. It's your writing, your posts, your words, on their platform.

Don't forget!
Friendly reminder that Starbucks baristas are still on strike and still asking you to support them by not patronizing *any* Starbucks in the US.

Try a new place! Get a home coffeemaker and a thermos that will pay for themselves with all the Starbucks you won't be buying! Don't cross picket lines!
Add this to your new years resolution: No Contract, No Coffee!

Pledge now to stop buying Starbucks in 2026 until the company stops union busting and settles a fair contract!

It appears AccuWeather changed their widget on Android? Sucks.

What's your favorite weather widget and why?

Elon Musk's accomplishments over the last year include starving thousands of people to death (and laughing about it) and creating Hitler AI that undresses children (and laughing about it). Is it time to do something about billionaires yet?

hahaha. Good one!
I keep seeing content labelled as "for the fifth edition of the world's greatest roleplaying game" and then it's clearly written by somebody with a *very* poor grasp of the Ars Magica rules.

As we observe Public Domain Day I want to call attention to Ars Magica. It's now been more than a year since we declared the text of Ars Magica 5th Edition, plus a lot of supplements going all the way back to 3rd Edition, under the CC-BY-SA 4.0 license. atlas-games.com/arsmagica/op...

Movie review

Sinners

Wow. Great movie.

Also, interesting to compare the vampires to the hive mind in Pluribus.

Watching Sinners, and I think everything is about to change.

No, I'm not on my phone while watching. We're taking a break to get beer and popcorn....

Were 90s kids clamoring for a Batman cartoon with 1930s Art Deco aesthetics? Is that what the market demanded? Or did some really smart creative people have a vision and make a genre-defining hit that sustained 20 years of TV shows? If you want success look for vision, not just metrics.

Jim Wampler announced this morning that we lost Tim Kask, who passed in his sleep on the 30th.

Tim was the creator of The Dragon, which set the foundation for what an industry-focused magazine should be. He was an icon and one of the few early founders of TSR still with us.

One of my favorite movies!
THIS IS NOT MEL TORME: Tonight's installment of the December Comfort Watch is Top Secret!, in which we examine why it underperformed when it came out and why it - might - be funnier now than in 1984. Also: Damn, Val Kilmer is pretty:

The December Comfort Watches 2025, Day Thirty: Top Secret!
Top Secret! (the exclamation point is part of the title) makes not one single solitary goddamned bit of sense. It’s a movie from the 80s with a hero from the 50s in a geopolitical setting fro…

With news today that the post office has stopped post-marking mail on the day it is dropped in the mail box, I humbly suggest that in states that don't offer ballot return drop boxes Democrats would do well rediscovering voting in-person early

This goes beyond postmarks. Every election cycle election officials reject hundreds of thousands of mail ballots because voters didn't follow proper procedures. This is disproportionately hurting Democrats. If you have an issue when voting in-person, poll workers can resolve it on the spot
