Yes - special schools particularly hard hit and often have fewer options for eg juggling staff.

Every over capacity issue can spark another and what would have been a single incident with some margin to handle it becomes a rolling set of crises.

I think there were some studies on this in health? Looking at what happened if you removed slacker, low intensity jobs from doctors so they could spend more time on urgent stuff. Turns out they needed the low intensity stuff to recover. Once that was gone their overall performance declined.

I find it wild that if you’re verbally abusive to a police officer or a nurse you can be prosecuted, but we are saying that when it happens to teachers it’s not even appropriate to send a child home.

Yes. And when things are going well and you're having impact that intensity is wonderful. I love it anyway. But at the best of times you're on a tightrope and when things are going badly it is very very tough.

These figures expose a lethal scandal taking place in plain sight but ignored due to societal prejudice: four in ten deaths of people with learning disabilities are avoidable, double the number of other citizens.

Help still needed. Now reduced to £150k

We still haven’t found a buyer for Mum’s lovely retirement house near the sea in Cromer on Norfolk coast. It really is time someone else was making happy memories there.

I’d really appreciate everyone sharing it widely 😁

How can schools get early intervention right?
The government wants pupils’ needs to be identified and addressed ‘early’, but we lack a shared understanding of what early intervention looks like, says special-school head Simon Knight

Quite glad that the big story in British politics is whether Andy Burnham will apply to stand in a by-election and not people being gunned down by state militias.

457 British troops lost their lives in Afghanistan.

Trump avoided military service 5 times.

How dare he question their sacrifice. Farage and all the others still fawning over Trump should be ashamed.

Special schools can be a wonderful alternative for teachers who find the system getting in the way of the things they enjoy about the job and work/life balance. It’s still hard work, but in different ways and can be easier to see the direct impact of the effort that is put in.

I agree with this. I’ve been teaching for 26 years and the last 4 have been in an semh special school. It’s still hard work but so rewarding and the work/life balance is so much better than any mainstream school I’ve worked in.

Absolutely loved watching my youngest this morning. The team played so well and he pulled off two excellent saves, but they just did simple things consistently and the opposition couldn’t live with it. And the rain held off!!

Parents want good, local schools that can support children with SEND to achieve and thrive, where inclusion is the norm and support comes early.

You’ve spoke, we’ve listened.

Labour is creating tens of thousands of specialist SEND places and giving school staff the training they need.
