The philosophy, design and delivery of curriculum is the greatest freedom & responsibility a Special school has. For this to be the response, suggests those involved in drafting the Government response don’t understand of how critical that responsibility is & how variable existing curricula can be.

Although I do think the recommendation to develop work to provide guidance on curriculum and pedagogical adaptation for those with SEND, including those in special schools, is important. We have a lot of freedoms in our sector and we need to know that they are discharged as well as possible 2/2

Well quite, countywide provision necessitates countywide transport. 🤷‍♂️

One factor also driving up transport costs is the location of Special schools in areas of low population density via the Free Schools model. Pragmatic decisions on capital investment have, in some cases, locked in high levels of transport cost. We need a better, joined up, strategy re. place growth.
