Rest in peace. Every trans suicide is a murder by those in power.

@cathryntownsend.bsky.social do you have any references on interest in genealogy research cross culturally? Or the anthropology of family history. Trying to look into it, but keep on getting bogged down with Foucaultian genealogy

A recent paper by Clark (2023) in PNAS suggested that there was clear evidence that class was genetically determined (whatever that means). This preprint by @jedidiahcarlson.com thoroughly critiques their methods and shows that, no, it's not so clear at all. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

🏺I see the "just asking questions crowd" is in an uproar.

But research is not neutral. It doesn't have neutral impact.

This panel wasn't going to be about "innocent debate." It was about validating preferred assumptions over a body of anthropological work.

we should get rid of the whole concept of "biological sex", actually, and just talk about specific traits/functions. "biological sex" is far too vague (including in science, and especially in medicine) and the only "usefulness" it has is for spreading transphobia.

The point I get from this is: what explanatory power does "sex" as a concept offer us. If it's defined in terms of gamete production, what does this allow us to infer about other properties of an individual based on their sex?

Helen “we need to reduce the number of trans people” Joyce’s risible book was also “humane” (according to Daniel Dennett and others).

I hate to repeat myself, but the problem with transphobes is not so much that they don’t see us as our gender/sex, but that they don’t really see us as human.
