Whenever I have need to visit the apothecary I ask the salesperson "And you vouch for this tincture?", they usually do so with an honest eye. I avoid generics, as I believe balms and potions should have a specific purpose, I am not so foolish as to believe in a panacea.

I love having OCD. I love knowing that ABC hasn’t led to XYZ a hundred other times but feeling absolutely convinced that THIS time is DIFFERENT

Years ago all of the music I didn’t buy on iTunes (I got it from CDs or whatever) disappeared from my iTunes completely and I never got to the bottom of it, never located any of it on my computer or anywhere. And today after making absolutely no changes to anything all that music is back

I’m taking a class at an adult education center nearby and every week I feel sort of amazed by how many people in my community have decided to learn woodworking or discuss Henry James or study Arabic or one of dozens of other subjects. What a joyful thing!

I’m a native and in fact almost exclusively English speaker. Yet I struggle with the phrase “blackout curtains” and almost always say “light cancelling blinds”

"Bring ye news from the river?" the stoat asked holding his cane and hat. "Still babbling" I responded. This caused immediate unease and panic in the tavern, all creatures large and small started mumbling and making plans. I realised I was thinking of the brook, but didn't want to seem a fool.

Don’t want to be accused of having a parasocial relationship but I do get a strong feeling this one is from his real life
The Spaniard led my girlfriend up the treacherous trail, he had advised me to skip this portion as I lacked "true hillside stamina". I suspected this was revenge for defeating him in a local variant of boules yesterday, but didn't want to make a "big accusation" before lunch.

not the most horrifying aspect of the story about the Boston Irish guy currently imprisoned in an American concentration camp, but: ICE forged his signature on documents to make it look like he was agreeing to be deported. How often are they doing that? How often have they gotten away with that?
“It’s just a horrible, horrible, horrible place,” he said of his detention camp. “I’m not in fear of the other inmates. I’m afraid of the staff. They’re capable of anything.”
And here is my story: ‘Absolute hell’: Irishman with valid US work permit held by Ice since September
