My Paris moment: yesterday I was trying to tap into the metro but my ticket wasn't working so l asked an employee for help. He said "you don't have a ticket" and I showed it to him, then he tried to tap the ticket for me & it didn't work & he said "yes, it isn't working" and he moved onto the next person. I had to buy a second ticket lol

I am the darling of Helsinki. I was at one of my favorite restaurants and I mentioned to the owner I loved the glassware there so much I’ve been in touch with the glassblower about getting an avant garde kinda thing from him. And the owner gave me a pitcher by the guy!

I was at a cafe here in Helsinki this weekend with a friend and I was chatting with the guy running the place. He mentioned he was Jewish and I was like no way, me too, you don’t meet a lot of Jews here! He asked how things are going and I was like oh, you know. And he was like “yeah I definitely do know… I was raised a hardcore Zionist in Russia so I had a lot of unlearning to do. Here it’s like my parents are double terrorists, ha!” And we had a lovely and interesting chat. Then when I left the cafe with my friend she was like “did that guy just tell you his parents were in ISIS?”

I have become interested in the experience of ordinary Germans during the rise of Nazism. You know, for no particular reason whatsoever. There are classics in the field I could have tackled, but I chose to read two lesser known and more recent works on the subject. It was a harrowing couple of weeks but well worth the intellectual adventure. I felt compelled to read Promise Me You'll Shoot Yourself based on the title alone (browsing library stacks is the original and undefeated recommendation algorithm).
