List-maker, office supply lover, late-1900s nostalgia chaser, book consumer, children's & YA GN enthusiast. Overly sentimental. Opinions my own.
Surgery scheduled for tomorrow.
My dog has a mammary mass. Pre-surgery consult is scheduled for Tuesday.

I didn't take my husband's name when we got married, because I love my name as is.

I see some people boasting that they knew better than to change their names when they got married.

Be that as it may, people should be able to change their names without it impacting their ability to vote.

Oh hey. My Chicago-versary is this month! I moved to IL from AZ in February 2012.

If I stay in my house for another year, it will be the longest unbroken stretch of time I've lived at the same residence ever in my life (10 years; my current longest is 9 years, so I've managed to tie it).

I’m so very serious .

Ask yourselves right now.. how would you handle this if you knew without a shadow of a doubt their goal was slavery?

What conversations would you hope to be having?

What behaviors would become suspect?

What freedoms would you have to ensure ?

Spouse and I don't celebrate Valentine's Day, which means I'm being asked to celebrate it by people I'd be least likely to celebrate it for/with.

The answer varies, depending on age.

When really young, I played outside with other neighborhood kids (also classmates) when on a Marine base or with my brothers cousins when not.

When I needed alone time, FP Little People lived a whole life in my mind.

Otherwise, reading. LOTS of reading.
Before AI, before SM and even computers: What did you all used to do to combat loneliness and boredom? Who did you talk to (or did you need to talk to people)? How did you develop relationships?

Pretend this is a poll. For science.
I may make a pie chart.

The quotes on this have been giving me life, even if there are a lot of repeats.

Keep 'em coming, folks.

I met two of my oldest friends - who were in my wedding party almost 5 years ago and get a visit at least once a year (in my AZ hometown) - in 8th and 9th grade, respectively.
watching John Green talk about his buddy from high school who is still his friend and I’m curious, is that common for people on here?

These lovely pieces, by @solexposure.bsky.social, are going to be heading my way soon. 😊

They remind me of (mini) Rothkos, while remaining entirely their own thing.

Anyhow. Support artists, fuck AI.

This makes sense, based on my posting habits (which is all it is able to base this on). I am fairly guarded here.

Glad my geography background is making an appearance via the proximity to urban planning, though. That's fun. :)

Why, for fucks sake, is this (local policing) something so many Americans want to keep?

This is a rhetorical question.

I ordered Girl Scout cookies from Chicago and Minneapolis.

One naming convention is correct (you know which one) and the other is not.

The good news is, both will taste great.

My work schedule the past two weeks, and the upcoming three, has been, and will be, pretty disruptive to my regular routine because I'm onboarding staff.

It's meant extra evenings and weekends, which has meant less trumpet and sleep time.

I was excited to sneak a practice in this evening. 😊

As an equally fun person, I want to start checking mailboxes for this.
USPS blue mailboxes are stamped with year of manufacture. This is one of the oldest ones I've seen in a while. I am lots of fun at parties.

I'm from AZ and I lived in neighboring Litchfield Park for a bit in my 20s, so I'm watching this with a mixture of anger (at the Surprise local government) and gratitude (for the neighbors/protestors).
It’s hard to put into perspective how truly massive the warehouse is that was recently sold by the Rockefeller Group to the Department of Homeland Security for $70 million to build a concentration camp in Surprise, AZ. Across the street is a huge neighborhood and a school. It’s 400,000-square-feet.

I've been sitting with this all day, even though I know the desire for whiteness is common; I have a Trump-loving uncle.

But there's a cost to embracing white supremacy.

There's this sahanjournal.com/public-safet..., a similar Chicago story last fall.
