What it looks like to plan deeply and intertwine lives with your friends. - Reflections on communal & non-normative living arrangements like communes, cohousing, co-ops, land projects, punk houses, squats, etc, other non-Eurocentric and/or non-heteronormative ways of setting up a home and a life. - Special Topics In Organizing + Counterculture: 1960s/70s radical leftist bank robberies, informants in social movements, cross-movement solidarity work - Food, especially autobiographical, political, or reflective writing centring on food and eating and their place in life, especially in connection with any of the other topics on this list. - Survival and preparedness from an anti-individualist, anti-ableist perspective - Complicated and messy perspectives on disability, body difference, fatness, Madness, plurality, sickness, etc - Death & end of life care & planning - Experiences of incarceration and other forms of institutionalization - Quakerism!

A hulking laser printer in 1990s ubiquitous business beige. It’s a new addition to Rose’s shop. She still uses an outside offset printer for jobs, but the laser printer is perfect for proofs to show clients. And for the zine Rose prints after-hours, a punk manifesto about art and gender called CTRL-ALT-DEL.

It has limitations too: it's not fancy, it's got to be ~40 pages or less and most bookstores won't stock a book without a spine. A book like this is ephemeral in exchange for being accessible. Nobody can stop you from sharing your work in a zine. All you need is [items are illustrated]... white 8.5x11" paper pens & pencils tape or gluestick white out copier long-arm stapler (copy shop will have one you can use) scissors Abridged: 4. Prep the content of your book on 5.5"x8.5" pages (standard 8.5x11" sheet folder in half.) The total pages has to be a multiple of four, including the cover. Ideas to get your page count to a multiple of four: title page, dedication page, bio page, decorative inside covers, big illustration, indicia, epigraph, table of contents. Cut or combine some of them. Count your pages and % the total by four. This will be the number of fresh 8.5x11" sheets you'll need to produce a dummy book for the next step. For a 12-page book you'll need 3 sheets. Fold each one in half. [Illustrations of numbered pages] 5. Illustration of template showing page order for printing. Page 12/1 (reversed side of sheet = 11/2); 10/3 (reversed 9/4); 8/5 (reversed /7/6). Stack pages and number lightly in pencil. Then tape/paste content pages you prepared earlier into your dummy book, trimming them down as necessary. It's going to be kind of puffy, messy and possibly sticky. Don't try to fold it in half again. THE COPY MACHINE. By default it will copy 1 -> 1 (single-side to single-side) pages. Adjust the settings to 1->2 (single to double-sided). *Include your name, contact info, date, location, and price (your cost x 3 minimum)* [Illustration of photocopier with speech bubble: "how do you do"] Abridged 6. 1. Place original on scanner bed. 2. Close lid and scan. 3. Flip original. 4. Scan again and print. 5. Retrieve your double-sided copy. Check to make sure it came out right! 6. Your beautiful double-sided originals are ready to be dropped off at a local copy shop who can print, collate, fold and staple your books for you for a few cents/page. I've had a fun morning of multiple Canadian queer history rabbit holes. Here's some photos I loved, taken by Charlie Dobie, representing Gay Pride and Gay Wrath in 1983 and 81 respectively.

It is a sunny Summer day, with Queens Park visible in the background. A dyke on a bike smiles at the camera. She is wearing a denim vest, adorned with political buttons. Another woman, possibly her girlfriend, sits behind her on the same bike. A nighttime photo of Bathhouse Raid protests in February 1981. A row of police officers stand in the front of the 52 Division police precinct, preventing angry activists from approaching any further. The day before, the Toronto police conducted Operation Soap, a militaristic raid that smashed up multiple gay bathhouses and arrested 286 people. The Bathhouse Raids protest turned towards Queens Park after being denied access to 52 Division precinct. Thousands of gay people crowd the doors of Queens Park, the Ontario provincial legislature, in anger over the militaristic bathhouse raids. Police line the building, preventing protesters from barging inside. Pillars stand on both sides of the photograph, with a crowd gathered between them.
