I think of all the things I’ve done in 2025, having my kiddo turn 2 to joining @sheabutterfc.com as media to cover the Washington Spirit. It’s been a wild run this year, ive grown in ways i never thought i would. While still being apart of 2 very important groups (cont)

Cori Close is right to be disappointed in the lack of media coverage yesterday.

Everyone watches women’s sports, but no one wants to pay a beat writer to cover them.

How many stories are being left on the table?

This lack of coverage will be felt hard as hell in women’s soccer (and soccer in general soon) and women’s basketball soon despite access and demand growth because folks are doing the same dumb shit that’s been done with mens sports. Five entities cant cover the whole sport or tell stories.

If there's not significant investment in dedicated media in women's sports — not just "media companies," whatever that means now, but actual game coverage by people who know the topic — this entire enterprise can only go so far.

Podcasting is not free. Social media and content creation is not free. No support to help sustain means you lose money yourself due to costs and baby then you can’t afford travel and to do content without going in the red in this economy. Add refusal of entities trying support or sponsor wompp

Btwn laying off media staff, or sponsors only wanting to fund retired players/huge outlet while refusing to support smaller/independent media:this will happen frequently for wcbb, woso & WNBA and NWSL. Alot of us cant afford to foot our own bilis anymore so we wont be in press conferences/events.

This could be used nefariously by those same GMs, and if you don't think a few will do just that, you're a fool. GMs, unlike owners, tend to want to win.
So, if you’re an NWSL GM, you are not allowed to decide yourself — using all of the tools of a pro team’s front office — that a Player has a High-enough Impact to warrant a certain salary. But you *are* allowed to vote on a list that would determine that that Player has a High-enough Impact.

Sure.
The ESPN FC top 50 is here and we need to talk about the sudden conflict of interest the league has created with the high-impact player rule.

With coaches and GMs weighing in on these lists, they can influence whether or not their players can get a bag.

An expert panel without a single Black voice on it? I knew y'all thought we weren't smart. I didn't think you'd be so blatant. I didn't even see CAF representation despite having CAF players listed. Before you get mad at me for pointing it out, look within.

Call this what it is: this is the NWSL's version of the NBA Supermax rule. It's not a Designated Player rule by any stretch. It's highly contingent on criteria that is 1000% subjective and reliant on European media to actually pay attention to the league, which they have proven not to do.
The NWSL introduces the High Impact Player rule.

When our own US commentators once mixed up Crystal Dunn and Christen Pres on live TV? These are the people I'm supposed to trust? Okay, I'm taking a lap for real. I'm crashing tf out, and it's almost Christmas. My family doesn't deserve this version of me.

THIS PART! Baby, we fought a whole war to be free of European rule. I do not understand this.
So we've now outsourced the valuation of players for an American soccer league to European media.

Looking forward to mediocre English players making more than their superior American equivalents!

That list has Mary Earps as more marketable than Trinity Rodman, if you’re wondering how sensible it is

Allocation by any other name. Making marketability a requirement is a dangerous game to play in a racist sport. But that's my little ol opinion.
