My still-cooking teen brain was recalibrated by a combination of Moore's WATCHMEN and Jorge Luis Borjes' The Labyrinth (specifically Pierre Menard, Author of The Quixote).
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

Watched the 1984 Toxic Avenger and was unimpressed. It was bad, and not much fun with it. Then I watched the new Toxic Avenger with Peter Dinklage, and I laughed out loud several times. We should be remaking bad movies, man.

Whose limericks never would scan.
And when they asked why,
He said "I do try!
But when I get to the last line I try to fit in as many words as I can."

See, the only good thing about the post Eilidh is referencing here is that people like this tend to show thier whole ass. Clearly announcing to the wild that they are entirely and completely full of shit. Eilidh is amazing under the thinnest shred of scrutiny.
REPOST. START HERE.

While Googling for other Canadian commentators, I stumbled across a result about me. Yes, I know, nothing but shit in there, but morbid curiosity etc etc.

First, according to this post, I'm the worst announcer in MTG history.

I'm also a DEI hire.

I know nothing about Magic.

Good evening. We estimate that between 4.2 and 7.6 million people turned out for the No Kings Day demonstrations held around the country on Saturday. This makes Oct 18 very likely the biggest single-day U.S. protest event since 1970. www.gelliottmorris.com/p/second-no-...

I was very appreciative of the nuanced discussion around these real issues. Not reactionary, but thoughtful. Well done.

The government is in full shutdown and the Republicans are refusing to call the House back into session.

Want to know why?

Because we have secured the final vote on releasing the Epstein Files and they don’t want it out.

Call GOP and tell them to swear in @adelitaforcongress.bsky.social.

The story of 2024 is this: Trump had a plan to destroy American government called Project 2025, which had, literally, not a typo, a 4% approval rating. He lied constantly and said he wouldn't do it.

Then he entered office and immediately implemented AN EVEN MORE EXTREME VERSION OF IT.

AOC: We should be clear about who Charlie Kirk was. A man who believed that the civil rights act that granted black Americans the right to vote was a mistake… His rhetoric and beliefs were ignorant, uneducated, and sought to disenfranchise millions of Americans.

The most maddening thing about watching the right suddenly pretend they're concerned about hate speech and embracing cancel culture means that when they firmly held the exact inverse position a week ago, it was also insincere and performative.
