i don't agree with tarantino that paul dano is bad in there will be blood, but i *really* disagree with the idea that artists shouldn't criticize other artists. i wanna know what they think! it's interesting! it's okay not to like stuff!

Rewatching My Neighbour Totoro and, like, I am just gonna come out and say it - the main characters are actually rather charming and endearing. Their youthful joie de vivre makes for uplifting and compelling viewing. No one else will tell you this but it's true.

I love how when you actually read the classics of continental philosophy the first chapter is always like 'I am quite fond of asking whether the ground's grounding of the grounded grounds the ground's grounding of the grounded'

Physicists will spend $10 billion on a particle accelerator to understand why there is an "unnatural" hierarchy between the Planck scale and the weak scale, then insist that philosophy has no role and we should shut up and calculate.
Today in #PhilosophyOfCosmology we talked about fine-tuning and naturalness, and introduced inflation and eternal inflation.

So many juicy philosophical questions that physicists don't take as seriously as they should! What does it mean for parameters/initial conditions to be "unnatural," anyway?

UChicago went on an absolutely *spectacular* spending binge in an attempt to overtake the likes of Harvard, MIT, and Princeton in prestige and instead it effectively destroyed its endowment and is now carving up departments in a desperate attempt to reclaim its riches via cost cutting.

I hate that the Joker kinda ruined pointing out that we live in a society for the rest of us, since we do in fact do that and sometimes it is worth drawing attention to some consequences of that fact.
