“This moment reflects the heart of San Francisco,” said D’Arcy Drollinger, owner and artistic director of Oasis and Oasis Arts. “Saving Oasis is more than keeping a venue open, it’s about protecting space for marginalized artists to take risks, share their stories, and build sustainable careers.”

“Worlds Safest Driver” Waymo spent all last night stopped in streets and intersections across SF due to a power outage. You’d think they’d plan for something like that.

At least one blocked an emergency response vehicle. This is what happens when a company gets to run a public service.

If you choose to buy an SUV/4x4 to drive in the city, you have prioritised your own desires over the environment or the safety of others. That's fine - just ensure you fully understand what that says about you. Don't go around thinking you're a nice person.

It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans.

As Outer Sunset residents, we know firsthand how unfounded the traffic nightmare claims are. Don’t believe us (or city data, or any maps app)? See for yourself.

Decided to get a nice bike ride in before the upcoming rain so Atlas and I showed the kittens how beautiful Sunset Dunes Park is.

It's time once again for my annual #treebybike post. This is the 12/19/42 cover of @newyorker.com, so one full year after the attack on Pearl Harbor. This would be the first real Christmas alone, or without a family member, for millions in the US. Gas and tire rationing had begun earlier that year.🗃️

Transplanting hummingbird sage plant babies is easy. Pull them straight out of rain-softened ground. Set the roots in a pot of muddy water until ready to plant. A hole 3 inches wide is plenty. Yesterday, I moved 10 in 2 hours. 🌱 #nativeplants #californianativeplants

Don’t forget, for many years #Uber insisted loudly that it would reduce traffic in cities. Instead, Uber drivers cruise without passengers 40% of the time. Uber and Lyft no longer claim they reduce traffic. They now admit they increase congestion.

So much for “making cities better…”

As winter flooding looms, it's worth noting that a young street tree in an asphalt surface can prevent 60% of the rain that falls on it from reaching the ground, even when not in leaf.

Increasing the low levels of urban tree cover should be a strategic national priority.
