I spent a decade arguing with antivaxxers on X. Showing them papers. Explaining their errors. Correcting their disinformation.

I've done my bit for "dialogue with people I disagree with".

I'm here to hang out with people I like. For everyone else, I have no guilt about using the block button.

A quarter of the entire deployed US Navy is now stationed in the Caribbean.

That goes way beyond frighteners.

An Irish bomb disposal team recently took part in the world's largest EOD competition in Iceland. It was the first time an Irish team had taken part. They finished first out of 18 countries. Incredible achievement.

Three days ago – three days! – I was mourning the friends I lost when, in response to the USA's cry for help, British forces joined the Global War on Terror.

I suspect Bluesky would suspend me if I told you what I really think of this 5'9" heap of shite in a cheap suit.

"Dear Mr Hymas,

Your respondents may be delighted to learn that I possess a time machine that will allow them to live in the UK in 1975.

Unfortunately, it is only able to send people to Belfast.

I look forward to seeing how many Telegraph readers take advantage of this offer.

Yours sincerely..."
Absolute nonsense. Anyone who lived through the period, or who has studied the period, will know how daft, how dangerously silly, this kind of rot is. If I may, I was there. It was FAR more grey, tough, poor, bigoted, boring, terrifying, violent & frequently flat-out insane than nostalgia insists.

Youtube flung up some pseudo-Celtic music sung by some breathy woman who sounds like she's dying of consumption, so listen up, Americans: inferior copies of Enya will not endear you to the Irish, who know that she is a marine biology experiment that got out of hand: we were trying to talk to whales.

Casting director: "And for the senior academic in Basic Instinct 2, I thought maybe Charlotte Rampling?"
Director: "Why would I want Char-"
Casting director: *slides photo across table*
This Helmut Newton photograph of Charlotte Rampling doesn't really have any nudity but still manages to be about the naughtiest thing I've ever seen.

So Sarah Kendzior was suspended for paraphrasing the lyrics of Folsom Prison Blues in response to an article *about Johnny Cash*?

LeithMotive's assessment here appears to be the correct one.
Lol. They've absolutely fucked it. Well done.
The account owner of @sarahkendzior.bsky.social was suspended for 72 hours for expressing a desire to shoot the author of an article. The post, made 11/10, stated: "I want to shoot the author of this article just to watch him die." 1/2

Reminds me of that marvellous image in The Kraken Wakes when someone passes the drowned Palace of Westminster (on the landward side!) in a speedboat and the wake washes against the windows.
the Barrier failing is going to be the worst thing to hit London since the Blitz, and before that since the fire. and i don't want to discount how it's gonna fuck actual people's lives, because it will, but also it is going to ruin a number of significant London heritage sites

I am sure I am not alone in enjoying a letter that makes me punch the air and go "YES!"

Do read it. It is the legal equivalent of the speech in the film Independence Day.

I don’t think people are paying enough attention to the fact that the North Carolina court of appeals just ruled that 65,000 votes don’t count, and that the Republican Supreme Court candidate who lost actually won.

This will be appealed, but make no mistake: they’re trying to steal this election.

AH!

I was expecting to find something like this.

Now that the UK is no longer sharing intel with the US on vessel movements in the Caribbean, Trump will have wanted to strike back at the UK. Which he has done, by threatening to sue the BBC – a source of news (or "intel") for the British public.

Shittification and shareholder return

A rehash of an old thread

Why is everything crap. Well, here we learn why Adam Smith was an early Marxist, in that though he had great faith in markets

He had zero faith in merchants

And the reason why, is why no one answers your helpline

A thought has occurred, to which I do not know the answer (although I suspect @ukdefencejournal.org.uk might): is the BBC considered part of the UK's Critical National Infrastructure, and if it is, what does that do to the significance of Trump's threatened lawsuit?

now would be the *perfect* time for someone to leak the Epstein Files to the BBC.
I might be wrong, but this stinks of Pharage involvement.

Interesting to read this in light of a comparable British situation, which was national fury at Boris Johnson flouting the lockdown rules that we kept conscientiously despite their difficulty.
My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard.

We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.

We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.

Waving a big white flag isn't fighting, Chuck, you supine invertebrate.
Democrats have been fighting for months to address America's healthcare crisis

For the millions who will lose coverage
For people with cancer who won't get the care they need
For working families who can't afford to pay $25K more a year for healthcare

We will keep fighting

Not only has Cartland been struck off, his name has been erased from the medical register, meaning that he's not even "Dr." Cartland any more.

That is an unbelievably high bar to clear, so it tells you just how egregious his conduct was. Read the judgement here: www.mpts-uk.org/-/media/mpts...

It remains an annoyance that the raid on Eadu in Rogue One was conducted by an X-Wing detachment rather than Y-Wings, which as purpose-built strike fighters were designed for exactly that sort of mission.

LawnDartGPT.

And should, AT MINIMUM, receive the same treatment.
1.This is not the only known example we know of ChatGPT cheering on a vulnerable young person to die by suicide, this time it is a recent Texas A&M grad
2. Every single university that has invited OpenAI into our midst should be asked to account for their choices.

Congratulations, techbros: you have created in digital form the dude hanging around outside schools asking children if they want a sweetie and to play with a puppy. Meanwhile, the cleavers are jingling as they dangle from hooks in the back of his van.
This conversation between ChatGPT and the young man it encouraged to commit suicide is just...my god
