This isn't about luxury - it's about basic human dignity. It's about mental wellbeing. It's about being able to live without constant anxiety about where you'll sleep.

Housing shouldn't make you sick. It should make you feel safe.

Hi friends!

We just want to say a MASSIVE thank you to everyone who's donated over the last few weeks. Words are beggars when it comes to expressing exactly how helpful it's been. Even the lil' DMs saying how much you appreciate our mahi has meant the world 🥰

So yeah, it's hard to have rational discussions when the reality is "you need to lose your job and pay more for electricity so we can make children's toys that talk to them about BDSM and social media where you can undress anyone who walks in front of your neighbor's unsecured electronic doorbell."

If the industry had begun the conversation about this revolutionary-but-dangerous new technology with a sense of responsibility and an eye toward regulation and ethics, maybe we could have approached these conversations differently.

The AI industry has exploded the cost of electricity and computer parts, has poisoned entire communities, has made job hunting into a Kafkaesque nightmare, and has turned our entire economy into an obviously precarious bubble, but we're told that the beast must continue to be fed.

AI corporations actively try to prevent you from learning about how the technology actually works. They make the symbol a magic wand or some sparkles to send the message that it just works like magic. AI architects give interviews where they say even they don't know how the tech works.
Experiments conducted with the A.I. system Claude are producing fascinating results—and raising questions about the nature of selfhood. Gideon Lewis-Kraus reports from inside the company that designed it, Anthropic. newyorkermag.visitlink.me/rOfXjg

To the extent that this is true about AI discussions here or anywhere, let's be clear about where the blame for that lies: with the AI corporations and the AI boosters.
Once again: people are angry for very good reason, and this brand of post is perhaps one of the most tedious and bewildering. Practically every social media platform is rabidly pro-‘AI’ so are govts, academia, companies. This one small space being critical of AI is okay, I think.

Look, I don't know why Death's selection list has been fucked since Prince, but we're going to need an elite heist team of religious scholars, metaphysicists, occultists and a cat burglar and we're going to go fix this shit.

I don't think a day has gone by in the past six years where I haven't called on some old skill or past job experience from decades ago to pull us out of a jam or fix a problem. From plumbing to herbal medicine to growing food or metalworking. I've spun and given away wool. I've bartered raspberries.

The Māori Seats in parliament are for Māori people. They are a Tiriti-based right not a race-based right.

This is why at Rātana Pā we launched a member's bill to entrench Māori seats - the bare minimum for protect dedicated Māori voice in our parliament.

When Van Velden says the employment law change has nothing to do with the Uber drivers case, can a journo spell out:

If you change the law to prevent workers being recognized correctly and gaining their full rights by drawing a before/after line, because workers won a case - that is TO DO WITH IT.

Whelp. The utility of any and all Gallup polling now - at best - suspect forever. Bootlickers. They’ll bring that poll back the second this administration is gone
Imagine if Gallup had just suddenly and "coincidentally" decided to stop collecting presidential approval data when Biden hit his polling lows.

Switzerland doing the right thing.
"Switzerland’s military has terminated its contract with Palantir Technologies following a security audit. The review concluded that U.S. intelligence agencies could potentially access sensitive Swiss defense data, a deal-breaker for the neutrality-focused Alpine nation."

Raises questions.
