Something I've never understood about folks who say they only support ICE going after violent criminals: why is that a job for ICE? It's not like police and FBI are only allowed to investigate citizens.

These fucking NYT headlines: "Minneapolis Authorities Respond to Shooting Involving ICE Agents"

I wish for once they'd write headlines with intent to communicate the facts instead of obfuscate the truth.

The more I read about Gas Town, the more I begin to suspect that we are living in a simulation run by an LLM that has hit its context memory ceiling and is now devouring itself.

People keep talking about “risk profiles” but the reality is that many people worried about opsec are basically incapable of evaluating the risk of respective actions. “I can’t be photographed at a protest but I’ll tail federal officers with no phone or ID” - you have inverted the relative risk.
we really do need to have more open conversations about personal risk and opsec... different people in different situations have different risk profiles but broadly speaking I don't think most people need to maintain absolute anonymity at most protests
Opsec culture in activism legitimately needs to die

I think some of you just don’t really understand what the feds are worried about. They can win a guerrilla war with 100 diehard revolutionaries in an afternoon. There is not one thing they can do about 50k marchers and 15k rapid responders

Lol. He's not wrong about the record numbers!

Cowardly Dems, do you need a clearer signal than this to come out against ICE?
sorry, I didn't include the data from NYT, here it is

Oh man Bluesky becomes so much more usable once you turn off reposts in the following feed.

It would be nice if there was a separate following feed that included them (without going through the tedium of creating a list), or if you could selectively enable them on a per-account basis.

Everything about this story is rancidly evil, but the kicker at the end: they're here legally with "an active asylum case with no order of deportation."

So glad DOGE got rid of all that 'waste' so we could offer $50,000 signing bonuses to hire stupid, out-of-shape racists to do this shit.
Minnesota: "School officials say the [5-year-old] child was used as bait. They say [ICE] agents made little Liam knock on the door to ask to be let in in order to see if anyone else was home."

Read a Peppa Pig book to my daughter tonight wherein two police officers come to teach the kids how to safely ride bicycles.

Bitterly pondered a contemporary US version of the story in which they instead abduct Pedro Pony at gunpoint, maybe toss some teargas at Madame Gazelle, and leave.

This is bad bad bad, but it’s worth noting that the memo’s from May 2025 and not this month. I think that’s useful information for limiting panic, because I read this headline and thought “oh this is about to get way worse”

This is a global far right power grab, so the sooner everybody realizes that and puts aside their deeply outdated notions around national identity, which got us here to begin with, the better. The only way out is through, but the only way through is all of us fighting these climate warlords together

Reading this intrusively evoked a mental image of Alec Baldwin portraying Donald Trump, alone on a stage lit by a single spotlight. He moves his face towards the microphone, inhales audibly, then over-enunciates the word "vagina".
imagine being the guy who accidentally said "weasel" at a weird time 2400 years ago

Trump speaking live right now, sounding doddering and infirm as he rambles from one lie to the next about what's happening in Minneapolis.

HIs sun is definitely setting; he's a shadow of who he once was.

Finally felt brave enough to start diving into my Christmas present (Omnisphere, a software synth), and it's really cool! Just have to push past being overwhelmed by the size of the patch library and the complexity of the UI (exacerbated by understandably legacy UX conventions).
