I wander around Excel looking for the exit. I draw colleagues' attention with loud lamentaions. I get cursed by the Chaos Gods as part of my tasks.
I also teach SF at Uni. That part's great.
ADHD/assorted issues stemming from it.
I wrote most of those lines keeping my fingers crossed that the VA can make them sound 10x cooler than they actually are. And, yeah... Kate Kennedy crushed it.

Turns out an actress whom I'd watched in a (high-profile, severely underperforming, cancelled) TV show - and loved her performance there - had one of the big VA roles for our upcoming release. Just learned she specifically singled out my script for praise on multiple occasions.

The blatant stupidity of the Firaxis layoffs situation is triply underscored by letting go writers like Emma Kidwell. This repost is a drop in the bucket but a network of colleagues that know you/of you seems one of the few (and great) things narrative people in this industry have going for them.
Hi! I was laid off from Firaxis this morning. I wrote leaders and civs for Civilization VII (NDA for now) and Deadpool and Storm for Marvel's Midnight Suns. I also wrote the award-nominated Hindsight.

I think a lot of people have been beaten down by bad producers and bad process but on my last job where I regularly interfaced with a producer having a producer was a blessing I was thankful every day. This is true even if there was inherent friction between my role and the producer's!

A day in the life:

Notes on the writing from the IP-holder came back. Half of them had to do with gameplay effects at odds with the writing (not in IP's purview but the liaison person is enthusiastic about their work and likes to be thorough). Why did that happen?

Fundamentally if your game contains text that you're comfortable filling with LLM slop you're making a bad game. Good design doesn't include text as empty filler the player isn't meant to read, engage with, or care about.

Quote-posting myself is cringe, I guess, but I wanted to finish my thoughts on this without clogging doc's nice thread.
I first came across the "absorb what makes you feel good about another's work" in an essay on writing by Samuel Delany, who himself sort-of-quoted Nabokov.
I think this is very important. The things you react to positively in others' work are the things you absorb into your own understanding of how you can write enjoyably, too. Writing is being aware of and working with narrative models, and the positive examples are what sticks in that respect.
