Ed enjoys making art partly because of the way he loses time while doing it. Working with his hands, he finds an escape from his constantly swirling thoughts. It’s a reprieve and a fucking relief, if he’s honest. His brain can be exhausting at the best of times, thoughts piling onto one another like people pushing their way into a crowded Métro carriage. Whereas at the worst of times, it’s full of gray fog that has a sort of oppressive weight. Those are the times when the art’s gone, like a tap that’s been turned off. Kissing Stede makes Ed’s brain go beautifully, blissfully quiet. His universe narrows to the physical sensations of Stede’s lips—softer than the silk of their pajamas—and solid body, radiating heat like Ed’s personal ball of sunshine. Ed has, perhaps, never truly felt warm until this moment.
