Breathing heavily from exertion, the young man made a beeline for where Stede was leaning and squeezed in next to him. He was sweaty and heat was rolling off him, soaking into every point they were touching - upper arm, hip, thigh. Stede usually felt uncomfortable being this close to people he knew well, let alone strangers. Out of habit and politeness, he shifted over slightly, and was surprised that he missed the contact immediately. "Thanks, mate," the young man said, offering a quick polite smile before he leaned against the bar and signalled the bartender. He sighed when he was roundly ignored in favour of someone else further down the bar. "Fuckers," he muttered, though there was more amusement than anger in his tone. "Don't want to serve a brown bloke, you think, or am I just not pretty enough to get their attention?" Stede started when he realised the question had actually been directed at him. He scrambled for an appropriate answer, not entirely certain how to address either of the points the young man had raised. Before he could speak, though, the young man stuck out his hand and said, "Ed." This? This Stede knew how to navigate. He took the proffered hand, long-fingered and delicately-boned, rings on almost every one of those long fingers, and shook it. "Stede," he offered. The stats page for the fic Help You Out With That?

Young Ed with his hair in a bun, wearing earrings, a heart ring leather choker, and a cropped black Skillet t-shirt. While Stede slogs through an incredibly boring chapter of a heavy Business Finance textbook, Ed lies opposite him on the bed playing Pokémon. He’s come quite far since Stede let him borrow his Gameboy. It doesn’t really make it easier concentrating on reading when he knows Ed is doing something much more interesting just a few feet away. It also doesn’t help that Ed is lying with his legs propped up and parted enough that it’s possible for Stede to see right up his skirt. God, he shouldn’t, he really shouldn’t look, he feels like a fucking creep—it’s not right, Ed is allowed to lounge in the exact same position as he is, no matter what he’s wearing. Shouldn’t have to be self-conscious, Stede would hate that, but it’s just so hard not to look. He feels so fucking guilty for it, but Ed is wearing panties, pink and zebra-striped and with a little bow at the front and everything, and Stede didn’t know this was something he’d be obsessed with, unable to stop sneaking glances at. Luckily, Ed is entirely occupied by his game and doesn’t seem to notice how often Stede’s gaze drifts from the ink on the page to the much more interesting ink visible through the fishnet stockings, dusted with dark hair that grows darker and coarser the further up towards the lacy fabric edge he lets his eyes wander. He can’t help but imagine what it looks like where it’s darkest and coarsest. With an enormous effort, he forces his eyes back to the text in front of him. He’s been reading the same paragraph for fifteen minutes, absorbing nothing. Sighing deeply, he starts over once again.
