If I was the sort of person to seek online attention, I would write about this topic under a headline like "This is the *real* Matt Mercer effect" or similar.

But I do think a default assumption of long, epic campaigns can both intimidate and cause people to reject shortform systems

A new post, so that this idea can be the focus. Most of the campaigns I've run or played in fizzle out for all sorts of random reasons. Such is life!

Really enjoy the practical advice Ram summarizes here born out of mistakes and holes he wished he had known about.

Save vs. Total Party Kill - Advice for Running a Hexcrawl, A Decade Too Late
Masters of Carcosa is the longest campaign I have run. My friends and I played 23 sessions, starting at the end of 2014, ending near the start of 2016. The game began after Brendan took a break from r...

A reminder there is an OSR feed that pulls OSR posts from BlueSky. Or tries its best to, anyway.
I have republished Yochai’s OSR feed, which I was the co-moderator of. Should be working exactly as it was before.

And so we come to the end! Masters of Carcosa was the longest campaign I have run. Reading all these recaps again has been a lot of fun for me, hopefully you as well. In session 23 the Rainbow Connection finally attack the Jale Slavers base!

And so we come to the end. Did I know this would be the last session of the campaign? Hard to tell, but I posted about it going on hiatus shortly afterwards. This session ended up being a fitting conc...

Session 22 of Masters of Carcosa was typical player hijinks, trying to trick the Space Alien Strike Force into thinking the evil Slavers desecrated their former leaders tomb.
Save vs. Total Party Kill - Masters of Carcosa - Session 22
This session was all about trying to make friends. The players had a zany scheme: dress up a slaver in the space alien amour they had stolen from a tomb in order to convince the space aliens it was in...

During session 21 of Masters of Carcosa I tried once again to remind the players the Putrescent Pits of the Ameboid God existed. Too little too late? I found my short notes about the site.

A @melsonian-arts-council.itch.io classic I had 100% forgot all about. Short and to the point.
Perhaps my favorite blog post of all time. Super influential on how I think about adventure games because it resonated perfectly with my instincts about sword and sorcery gaming.

I hope they make an extra fancy giant hardcover version of Blame one day. What an incredible manga.

Still don’t really know what the fuck is happening, but whatever.

I don’t remember anything about this book or why I backed it on Kickstarter. It looks cool, so I assume past Ramanan had some good taste.
