a big runoff last night, in New Orleans:

Calvin Duncan was exonerated after spending *28 years* in prison; he tried to get his own case records from the New Orleans city clerk—but the office dragged its feet.

So Duncan ran to become city clerk himself, and yesterday ousted the incumbent.

Anyone who’s ever used emergency contraception or gains peace of mind by even having it on hand owes Dr Camp a debt of gratitude. What a force.

(Also, I just learned one reason the FDA rejected it at first was that they said the name Plan B was too glib!)

Great obit—no paywall.

On one jar, Drake reflected on his systemic separation from his family members... “I wonder where is all my relation / Friendship to all—and every nation.”"

Incredible. Jess has been on this story for YEARS. The victim's mother recently told her – in a quote that was shown to the state's Pardon and Parole board, contributing to their clemency recommendation – “They should let him live. I don’t think they should execute him.” The governor listened.
BREAKING: Tremane Wood, who was moments away from being executed for a killing his brother admitted to committing, received a last minute clemency grant from Gov. Kevin Stitt www.huffpost.com/entry/treman...

But Israel abruptly decided to send all Gazan patients back to Gaza next week.

Unless third countries take them ASAP, many will die 🧵

It started here in New Jersey. With a raid in Newark that detained a veteran. We thought it was a shocking, isolated event. 𝐖𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠.

As @yunao08.bsky.social and @tusk81.bsky.social wrote, "No veteran or military family should live in fear of deportation and separation. Period"
From Purple Heart recipients to military parents of U.S. Marines, immigrant veterans are being detained, deported, and torn from their families.

"These are not isolated cases or tragic instances of human error." #VeteransDay

A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.
