Wow. This is just....wild.
Mike Johnson: "I don't think the loss last night was any reflection about Republicans at all. I think people are frustrated and angry, as we are, I am, the president is, and we express that in different ways."

I was thrilled to be featured on @saralkruger.bsky.social's excellent PB First Lines blog with the journey of THE DOG WHO SAVED THE BEES (words by me, art by @davidhohn.bsky.social, published by Sleeping Bear Press). My first line changed drastically!

really does feel like if we can cyberbully the House into passing changes on the shit they openly hate and get it kicked back upstairs again there’s a chance it might not survive the Senate a second time

if you live in a GOP state it’s time to ruin a House rep’s life
The package now goes to the House who is expected to vote on it this week. Any changes to the bill in the House will force the Senate to take up the bill again.

The current bill as written raises the debt limit by $5 trillion.

THIS is what we want when we ask our representatives to "do something." Don't acquiesce, don't give up easily, don't try to make deals. Fight, stall, delay, make it difficult for the fascists. THANK YOU for realizing this and actually doing something.

Stand and turn all backs to Trump. Or walk out once he starts talking.
If you were in Congress, what would you do for the State of the Union? What do you think Dems should do?

The term that makes sense to me is "evangelical capitalists." They believe if you can afford something you deserve it no matter how you got the money and if you can't buy it you don't deserve it, even food & medicine, no matter what external forces prevent you from having the money.
"It is no exaggeration to say this will kill people—mainly people who are elderly, disabled and/or poor. Society’s most vulnerable sit in the crosshairs of our nation’s wealthiest people who have absolutely everything, but somehow always want more."
The full force of this administration’s destruction is about to hit
Once social security checks stop showing up, millions of Americans will finally understand the scope.

I want them to be like Mitch McConnell in Obama's 2nd term. They all witnessed it. It's a great playbook for being a horribly annoying pain in the ass roadblock. It's not rocket science. I'm not asking them to break the law. I'm asking them to be as good as him at using the rulebook to obstruct.

He's in his final term, constitutionally. Act like it. Treat him like the lame duck he is instead of letting him think he's going to finagle his way into a third term with SCOTUS's help, assuming he doesn't choke on Big Mac first

Honestly don't understand why Congressional Dems aren't raising hell about everything. OMG Why are they acting with so much decorum?
Honestly don't understand why Congressional Dems aren't raising hell all day every day about Elon Musk's role in this administration. Musk's ouster should be the floor for any cooperation on anything.

Pew Research estimates that 79% of hetero married women change their surname on marriage. Approx 69 mil American women no longer have a birth certificate that matches their legal name -- and that would, under this bill, disqualify them from voting.

Please, PLEASE call your senators and urge them to oppose RFK Jr.'s nomination. You may think public health doesn't impact you (which would be impressive five years into a global pandemic), but it does, and people will die if he's confirmed.

I know I'm "lucky" to live in a blue state where my reps largely align with my voting, but I'm imploring those who have GOP reps to call. As craven as that party is, they can't want an end to democracy as we know it b/c that means an end to their jobs and power, and we know they are self-serving.
