as a thought exercise for everyone reading ross douthat's latest missive in the NYT, i want you to think about sending an email to your entire company with the subject line "Did Women Ruin the Workplace?", then think about the over/under on the number of minutes/hours you would still be employed

ah, perhaps instead of pumping millions into endless factional infighting Dem donors could invest in making local Dem organizations genuine civic spaces that can reach people during and between elections

Pelosi IS/was the center, so this is just the GOP playbook, no matter the person🫠 "many in the party are fearful that ...Republicans will make Democrats ...answer for Mamdani’s every utterance, seeking to use him as a bogeyman not unlike how Nancy Pelosi was deployed" www.msnbc.com/msnbc/news/m...
As Mamdani nears victory, Democrats worry about national fallout
The progressive candidate is on the cusp of a historic mayoral win. And that's adding to unease among Democrats looking for a way back to national power.

In this piece: The New York Times did not think the No Kings protests were all that significant – which is indicative of how much mainstream institutions have bought into the idea that only Trump and his supporters represent “real America” and have a right to have their message amplified.

Once again, language matters.
This is quite a hed/subhed.
1) Start with Vance. Use strong action verb. Accept the autocratic premise that the “Marines’ Might” are Vance’s to flex.
2) Mention the protest second and absurdly describe them as in the thousands
3) Treat Trump’s strong man use of the military as a partisan scuffle.

yes, AI at its core is a question of power infrastructure - in the worst kind of way.
"Move fast and break things" and "better to ask forgiveness than permission" get us a whole suite of "AI" literally built out of consent violation and coerced control, where human consent is not meaningful a possibility, and uses that suit to try to coerce or replace anyone who might tell them "no."

Why this spectacle and what does it signal to mil leaders? Great thread by @risabrooks12.bsky.social:
It's easy to see this speech as just weirdly performative, but there's a lot more—and a lot worse—going on here.

The meeting & speeches are part of a larger project aimed at promoting the military leadership’s partisan alignment with the administration.

How? 1/
