Despite losing his seat in the election, Pierre Poilievre still lives at Stornaway - that’s tax-payer funded government housing.

Ironic considering he spent his whole political career, including a few years as housing minister, denying affordable housing Canadian families.

Same. It’s frustrating to never feel like my views have been represented in the political halls.
I'm a leftwing Canadian.

I've never, in my life, been represented by a government at any level that comes close to sharing my political beliefs. And you don't see me whining about it...

Ok, you do see me whining about it, constantly, but you don't see news orgs writing about me whining about it.

I worked the election in Canada yesterday. The care and attention to detail with keeping ballots and voter information safe and secure before, during and after the vote, not to mention making the election day process easy for voters, is an impressive logistics masterpiece. 🇨🇦
With all sincerity, Elections Canada is a national treasure.

- Voting typically takes less than 15 minutes
- We make it easy for citizens to vote, without cumbersome registration hurdles
- We have every reason to trust that ballots will be counted fairly, and results reported swiftly

Agree! He got the votes because he has ideas and because Canada does need change.
Mark Carney has a unique opportunity to remake Canada in ways his predecessors would’ve struggled to find the political capital to do.

I hope he takes advantage to build ambitious, nation-building projects to bring the country together again and get serious about reducing our dependence on the US.

1h20 mins in line tonight to vote at the advance poll and there were still people in line as I left at 9:20. I’m working as a returning officer on election day, so wanted to make sure I voted early! #canpoli #elbowsup

Can we please stop saying “Trump’s policy”, “Trump administration” etc, and start saying “Republicans”. It’s all of them, not just him.

Agree!!!
I like paying taxes. Genuinely. Not grudgingly. I can’t pave a road, I can’t build and staff a hospital. $200 in my pocket won’t pay for my kid’s daycare but if we all pool our money it might. I really wish someone on the left would be brave enough to be like, “Taxes are good, actually.”

The Canadian Anti-Hate Network reports on the anti-choice candidates given the “Green Light” by Campaign Life Coalition. 84 of them! Actually there's even more because CLC excludes those who support abortion in *some* circumstances. ARCC counts those as anti-choice.
84 Federal Candidates Given “Green Light” by Canadian Anti-Abortion Group
The group’s questionnaire includes “Are there any circumstances under which you believe a woman should have access to abortion?”

I was at this event last night - just out of frame on the left. I’m glad I went. Carney handles himself calmly, leading w positivity and action - it feels like that’s who we want at the table with other world leaders as we defend our sovereignty and work our way through this complicated season.
President Trump’s tariffs will hurt, but they will not break us.

We will get through this crisis together, because in Kitchener-Waterloo — and right across the country — we are #CanadaStrong.

Great thread about the Canadian election process - I have also worked a few different Federal elections and truly, there is SO MUCH PAPERWORK, cross-checking, supervision etc. The system works.
I keep seeing Canadians who have never worked or volunteered at an election (and I wonder if they have ever voted, in fact) posting about being worried that Musk and Russians will interfere with our election.

So I wanted to do a thread just based on my experience as a volunteer AND as a paid person
