If it took Mark Carney this long to see what we've been seeing for the past year (and he's been seeing up until the election), very well. I expect changes in our foreign policy moving forward, particularly insofar as the US is concerned. I also expect the US appeasement bill (C-12) to be abandoned.
“There is a strong tendency for countries to go along to get along. To accommodate. To avoid trouble. To hope that compliance will buy safety.
It won’t.”

I hope this finally marks a pivot in Canada’s approach, mirroring the hardening in Europe

They don’t want a high-trust society. They want a low-melanin society.
It’s ironic that they’re like “if we do ethnic cleansing we’ll have a high trust neighborly society” and then Minneapolis is literally doing high trust neighborly society and they’re like nooooo
Many Americans are terrible neighbors to each other, and that is why MN is striking everyone as extraordinary activism... when they are telling us that it is not. They're good neighbors!

It's no wonder that "being a shitty neighbor" is the hallmark of our domestic politics and our foreign policy.

Two days ago, local influencer Caryma Sa'd known for targeting progressive protestors and movements put my full name out in an accusatory post for her tens of thousands of vicious social media followers to devour.

Today, I returned the favor and put her full name in the local newspaper.

I'm glad to see the CBC calling it out for what it is. For too long our media organizations have been trying with ever-increasing desperation to feed us the lie that there are two legitimate sides to every issue.

The same goes for the Carney Liberals as they've shown us.
Democrat leaders on this platform want you to believe they are the party of resistance while supporting genocide, rubber stamping Trump's nominees, folding on trans rights, using far-right rhetoric about migrants, working with mass surveillance companies, getting mad they weren't in on a coup.

I also hoped Carney would be a cold, pragmatic leader who could steer Canada using evidence and common sense. Turns out he's just another finance-brained conservative who can't deal with reality. It sucks. But I'm not gonna pretend he's the leader I hoped he'd be. Because I'm not a fucking child.

It's cowardice. That's all there is to it.

We elected a bunch of cowards after they lied to us about their intentions.
Also for anyone suggesting Canada is limited in what it can say because of its proximity to and dependence on the US, that didn’t stop Mexico.
"Mexico strongly condemns and rejects the military actions carried out unilaterally ... by armed forces of the United States of America against targets in the territory of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in clear violation of Article 2 of the [UN] Charter"

"At least he's not Poilievre" is the new "at least we're not the US".

It's true and makes sense in some contexts, but we cannot allow it to be a carte blanche for the justification of regressive policies.

It's time to hold the Prime Minister to some actual standards.

We're seeing the notwithstanding clause being used more and more in Canada, with provinces choosing to exempt themselves from the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms with impunity.

They want you to become desensitized over time.

Don't give them that. Our rights are not up for grabs.

Pierre Poilievre really controls this supposedly Liberal government, doesn't he?

Any other party (or its own grassroots base) wants something and it's just crickets.

Conservatives ask for something and the next day there's a government bill for it.

I'm very upset with Bluesky for what it's been doing lately but this is correct. Image classification for moderation purposes is a good use of machine learning, and training a classification ML model doesn't allow it to create new content based on training data ('stealing' artwork).
This is going around again and it is not true. Like every site on the internet, Bluesky uses machine learning to do a first-pass approximation of image classification to detect and label content. They have repeatedly confirmed outside services do not use Bluesky user data to train their models.

I just made a financial contribution to @transrights.northsky.social. If Bluesky's administration wants to act like Elon Musk, it shouldn't be surprised to find its platform succumbing to the same fate that brought down Twitter.

Absolutely shameful decision by Vince Gasparro that makes double standards in government discretion obvious. This would never have happened for white supremacy or aligned bigotries—but does happen if you dare speak out against genocide.

I'm looking forward to a legal victory in favor of Kneecap.
A message to Vince Gasparro, who has banned us from Canada, and our many fans there. 👇
