Ah yes, the self-proclaimed"red-blooded Lacanian male", weird how this keeps happening. It's as if this conspiracy of anti-leftists draping themselves in theory to promote the agendas of reaction is pure projection!

Even if you were to somehow ignore his politics, Yarvin is just not a thinker on the same level as anyone else at this conference. Everyone else is a Distinguished Professor and the bios have to describe him as a 'blogger' with one book on an obscure right wing press. They may as well get Sneako.

Adorno moment: The import of Threads as a criticism of cold war politics is that it presents its endpoint as utterly hopeless! If you put hope into it, the critical role of the artwork dissolves. Given that this will defo be presented as an analogy for climate change, this will simply be propaganda.
Threads director Mick Jackson has expressed worry over the upcoming remake’s focus on finding “hope even in the most challenging of times.”

“That one phrase worried me,” he tells Empire. “Hope is not part of nuclear war.”

Ngl man every time I hear Marduk are playing it's just depressing such obvious and obnoxiously nazi shite has been so normalised. I'm also inclined to say in some respects it's getting worse, was at a Midnight gig months ago and it was swarming with fash (said band later announced a tour with D666).

Completely serious question: How the hell do people come up with postdoc projects? I'm on my third attempt to find some throughline to pitch but I have no idea how determinate the research has to be, am I outlining a speculative research program or "here's the book I want to write, pay me?"

A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE w/ PATRICK WYMAN

Prompted by a meditation on mercenaries, I reached out to the henchest man in history to discuss ancient means of violence work and whether our current conjuncture is really a rupture or a return to form.

Universities routinely launder the reputations of right-wing extremism (e.g. Thiel, 'race science', 'AI', 'Effective Altruism', etc.) in apparent quid pro quos for a few million, or on occasion because a weird reactionary has lodged themselves in like a tick and wants to push his ideology
Really surprised this isn’t getting more attention. Utter desecration of what any university let alone Cambridge is supposed to represent. Imagine submitting Greta Thunberg is the anti-Christ for peer review. www.varsity.co.uk/news/31135

The whole anti-Woke, cancel culture crusade: a bunch of bajillionaires who knew they had it coming, and decided wrecking fuck out of the public realm might mean too much chaos to hold them accountable. Plus their dickhead servants, who were annoyed about being told to fuck off on Twitter dot com.
