I cannot yell about this enough. So many times I've seen an idea with lots of potential get thrown out because it wasn't "perfect" initially, only to be replaced with another underbaked idea, when we could have taken the same amount of time to reflect upon, tighten up and grow the first idea more.
The reason?
Game development regularly mistakes 'change' for 'iteration'.
Iteration is a constructive process of development where ideas develop and refine over time. In game development, far too often the process is not iteration, but wholesale change, often without notice.

Well this is it. I was let go from Crystal Dynamics as Perfect Dark was cancelled. I am now out of a job. I genuinely dont know what to do at this moment but to frantically apply for as many jobs that are applicable. If anyone needs a Senior Environment Artist of 10+ years, please let me know.

When you take everyone on the team’s anxiety and you have nowhere to put it you just squash it deep down in your soul until it becomes a part of your personality 🫠
Also part of our job is to be good at catastrophizing so it’s a chicken and egg issue
