It's just a lie to say London transport is 'subsidised' - we receive no grant and we are net contributors. London buses are subsidised by London trains.

When can you declare an emergency over?

The 5p “emergency” petrol tax cut was introduced in March 2022, to offset a spike in prices

They are now about 30p down on that month, & about 50p down on the absolute peak

Good to see HMT has finally relented on the tourist tax. Important that mayors are allowed to keep all of the income and choose how to spend it without central interference. And that it's the beginning of fiscal devolution not the end.

Let the joy be unconfined, the Whole Show Podcasts of the Friday and Saturday shows are here. We take the news and most of the ads out, so it takes less time to listen to, which gives you more time to bill the Russians for the things they want you to say.

Again, while the hypnotits thing is funny, it is also a real issue of "So, your previous career was being a charlatan?"
I did fall into the trap of "What's his angle with the NATO stuff?" before realising it's not that deep it's just what he believes as a fundamentally unserious individual.

Polanski is Farage of the left, straight up and down grifter to me.
This would be a heck of an audacious move and would really focus Starmer's mind.
Zack Polanski tells the BBC it would be "very tempting" for him to stand in Keir Starmer's seat at the next general election

One of the things going for Rory Stewart’s abandoned mayoral run, was his thing for Parisian density
Loads of shabby crap badly-used late Victorian 2 storey blocks on almost every thoroughfare outside Central London, pull them all down and build 5 storey mixed residential above commercial ground floor. I've been saying it for a decade.

He sounds like the middle class football fan on the Fast Show, when he probably swears like a tropper and wants to stand in Blocks 5 or 6
I spend a lot of time thinking about this, and I think it's because the 'real Starmer voice' is quite...blokey? And that is for a bunch of reasons a register that the British centre-left has always struggled to speak in.
Starmer genuinely loves football, like, there's evidence of him LOVING football for decades. And yet...when he talks about it....he sounds like someone who has never seen a minute of it. He sounds like someone who only just heard the word "football" earlier that day.

And btw as I’ve written I’m not necessarily convinced BBC should survive in its current form. But I’m far more sure, partly because I’m an actual patriot, that its demise shouldn’t come at the hands of a foreign head of state.

Interesting to see so many great British patriots right now begging an American president to bankrupt one of Britain’s last remaining truly national institutions.

Even if true, this whole, excel go green, approach to running the economy since 2011 is a fucking terrible way to run a country.
You have got to be kidding me!!!

It’s a bottle job of massive scale. And the problem is, they’ll have to come back (if they make it mind) next year and play the same stupid game only to step back from the edge of doing the right thing
Adam isn’t speculating here: it’s what Reeves did last time (alongside a hefty employers’ NI hike) and it *didn’t* go down well.

It also didn’t raise enough to protect against shocks, hence more rises being needed now.

This is total, dismal, political failure.
Exchanging one unpopular, but effective, tax-raising measure for a load more unpopular, controversial and piecemeal tax-raising measures is not going to end well

The limit going did lead to people buying Pinarello’s on it, which was a piss take, £2,500 limit seems about right

The broader pattern, to quote a learned philosopher “chat shit, get banged”. Repeated PMs have made false promises and then become unpopular when the bill comes due.

I’d always wondered why no one had ever published a full, detailed map of the 1960s plan to turn London into a giant web of US-style urban motorways…. It turns even the politicians and designers didn’t make one at the time. It just didn’t exist. Until now.

Australia has so much solar that it's offering everyone free electricity
Australia's extensive solar power penetration makes so much energy that the government wants to offer free electricity at peak hours.
