What unlawful orders have been given so far?

Rep Raskin says: Deployment of troops in LA & DC; destruction of boats on the high seas w/out a declaration of war from Congress; lack of due process are all examples of unlawful orders.

Keep your oath to uphold the Constitution, US troops.

When America celebrates its 250th anniversary of independence on July 4, Harold Meyerson suggests going beyond the usual No Kings protests to paint Trump as the monarch he is:

Planning No Kings Demonstrations for July 4, 2026 - The American Prospect
Our 250th anniversary requires pro-Trump redcoats as well as pro-democracy bluecoats to re-enact our anti-monarchial founding.

Socialism is what they called public power.

Socialism is what they called social security.

Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations.

Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people.

You all know I've been after the Treasury Department's own Epstein file. It's a set of thousands of detailed bank records, a map of Epstein's financial network. Secretary Bessent is blocking its release – and he denies it's even something Treasury should be investigating.

9/🧵 What does this mean for Democratic strategy? All those debates about choosing between identity politics and economic populism? False premise. Young working-class voters with low racial resentment aren't choosing. They're ready for Medicare for All AND Black Lives Matter. Lean into the tide.

This is the part about Platner that pisses me off the most.

Even if I bought all of his bullshit about the posts, the tattoo, etc. and believed that he really is a Changed Man yadda yadda yadda…

…ok, fine: Run for city council or county commissioner or something first, not for the U.S. Senate.
No reaching out to communities that were affected by the rhetoric and actions. Just jump on a podcast with a bro and get a softball interview while getting your ass kissed 💋

Yeah, I'm sorry, but you do not keep the government shut for more than a month and then NOT get a deal on the main item you have been messaging on without completely shifting the blame dynamic.
Major concession from Democrats here is enhanced ACA funds aren’t extended. Preserving them was Dems’ central demand in this fight. They secured a promise of a vote (which Thune has been offering for weeks), but that could still fail. Even if it passes, Johnson has made no promise of a House vote.
Tentative Senate deal to end shutdown, multiple sources tell me & @frankthorp.bsky.social:

—CR through Jan 30
—Approps minibus
—Fully funds SNAP
—Reverses Trump’s shutdown RIFs
—Promise of Senate vote on ACA subsidies by Dec second week (details/outcome uncertain)
—Led by King/Shaheen/Hassan

Democrats have to stop bailing out Republicans from facing the consequences of their own policies. And yeah, that means they have to stop sparing voters from experiencing what GOP government truly means.

Every time Dems step in, it only emboldens the GOP & they make it even worse the next time.
So Democrats get:

1. A CR that will prevent the GOP from facing the wrath of Americans for a shutdown over the holidays

2. A coupon for one (1) meaningless ACA vote that will fail

3. An end to the illegal RIF/SNAP moves that are already before the courts

Those all seem like wins for the GOP.

Thank you to Senator Ron Wyden for letting us know the MAGA Senate Republicans are trying to slide a nationwide abortion ban into the shutdown negotiations.

Hell no! They want to control every part of women’s lives and we aren’t having it.

KBJ threaded the needle thanks to CA1’s unfinished business.

-if she denied the admin stay, the full SCOTUS woulda stepped in to override her.
-if she immediately referred the case to the full Court, they coulda dragged feet.
-instead she boxed them in to act quickly once she does refer the case.
