Important and correct analysis of our present situation. We have to keep seeing the big picture and not be distracted by the differences in the pretexts. The pretexts all lead to a common goal.
Every unlawful exertion of executive power has been pretextual--e.g., DEI, crime in cities, drug trafficking, antisemitism, waste, fraud, abuse, indoctrination, autism, insurrection--the real motive is and has always been to consolidate autocratic rule.

Conservatives govern the same way they parent: negative reinforcement. They punish, control, and instill fear — don’t do this thing or you’re gonna “get it.” In contrast, liberals try to use positive reinforcement — give $ or validation to encourage a certain behavior. It comes full circle.

Please read all three senior officials’ resignation letters in full. I couldn’t even find quotes to pull. All three are cornerstones of modern public health. Dan Jernigan’s been at CDC longer than I’ve been alive. Department leadership left them in an impossible position.

Meanwhile the BLS *does* have serious problems related to declining data integrity — because Trump has deprived it of resources. Hiring freezes, early retirements, “fork” departures etc. have left the agency so thinly staffed that field offices are closing.
