I've never been more ashamed to be an American than today.
I've never been more proud to be a Minnesotan than today.

Alex Pretti was a colleague at the VA. We hired him to recruit for our trial. He became an ICU nurse- I lover working with him. He was a good kind person who lived to help and these fuckers executed him.

White. Hot. Rage.

I was one of Alex's nursing faculty at MCTC. This is simply devastating. He was a good student and I knew he'd be a good nurse. Im so sorry for you and his VA family. May his memory be a blessing and an example of what a nurse is.

Just saw on KARE 11 that this boy was sent to a detainment facility in Texas and that his family didn't know his whereabouts for almost 24 hours.
This picture making the rounds on reddit, Columbia Heights. I'm not OK.

ICE took someone in Waite Park today while they were delivering food to their family. ICE violently smashed their car on a residential street and then started pointing guns at children in the neighborhood.

I would imagine that in 1933 many Germans thought things would turn out ok for them personally because they were not Jewish, only to be led into a disastrous war.

I do not want to see any mealy-mouthed MLK remembrances from any Minnesota company that’s not doing shit about this ICE occupation.

What I forgot to mention is that at one point the very young ICE agents in the car started playing Born in the USA and the neighborhood was like nah, that song is not what you think it's about.
This a car full of ice agents that was a block from my house this afternoon.

If (when?) this happens in my city, may I have a tenth of this courage.
Minneapolis and Saint Paul have basically mobilized into a war economy of mutual aid and non-violent defense. I’ve never seen anything like it, even during Covid. People who barely vote are guarding their schools from ICE and doing the shopping for neighbors in hiding.
This is so smart. I’m so impressed with all the different ways you’re helping your neighbors.

It was pretty gratifying to see Jake in the window well, but just know at the same time ICE has been active in the East Metro. And has taken people.

For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention.

The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.
Opinion | I'm a Minneapolis sociologist who studies violence. Here's how ICE observers are helping.
Research into how violence occurs shows that disapproval from the people around you can help reduce it.

They were near my kid's high school at dismissal. The school had to direct the students not to talk and to get on busses straight away.
Heard from a public school staffer.

ICE agents follow school buses on their afternoon routes & target some parents picking up kids from bus stops.

If ICE knew anything abt particular parents, they'd go to homes.

Seems they're just leveraging kids' vulnerability & mixing with racial profiling.

We invited friends and family upside the family to a Zoom. It was therapeutic.
I truly appreciate how many check-in messages I've had from friends around the world and/but it's weird how I'm getting accustomed to providing two-sentence updates on some of the bleakest shit I have seen in my life

What if the real occupation is the friends we made along the way?
On the ground here in Minnesota, it’s hard to reconcile the immense bonds of community that have been built in a week with the fact that we live in a country whose government appropriated billions of dollars to an unaccountable paramilitary force whose sole purpose is ethnic cleansing.
