For those who may have missed the news, the Australian 2025 Peregrine Falcon breeding season has commenced and the mating pair at 367 Collins Street, Melbourne have three eggs (laid 23, 26 and 29 August).

Mum and Dad just did a changeover for brooding duty.

Science is goddamn amazing.
French and Canadian researchers have shown that faulty mitochondria directly drive memory loss in dementia. Using a new tool to boost mitochondrial activity in mice, they restored memory performance, proving cause and effect for the first time. buff.ly/2REM0fd

I call on the Australian government to #RaiseTheRate of all support payments to a living wage.
This would be the single most effective way to lift the productivity, quality of life, and well-being of the whole country.

The number of times I made a 😲 face while watching that presentation; the mangling of names, the omission of a finalist, the general sloppiness of the whole thing.

A couple of people have noted they provided pronunciation guides so "there wasn't one" is rubbish - the organisers had the info.
Something very very weird happened during the Hugos award ceremony... It's been on my mind for days, and so I wrote this blog: "When People Giggle at Your Name, or the 2025 Hugo Awards Incident"

A little shameless self-promotion: I made an RSS feed for my website where I review books. The feed is rotheche.neocities.org/booksrss.xml if you want to use your RSS reader to subscribe. I update on a fairly irregular basis, usually once a week.

Actual website is rotheche.neocities.org.

"Why? We are a library."
